How about Maggs? 4/60 doesn't look quite as bad as 5/75. I wonder what the Tigers would want for him.

I thought about him too, but he's just as big of an injury risk, more expensive, right handed, and older.

I'd say his availability level is greater than Drew's though. Any way the Tigers throw in Carlos Guillen?

Was he hurt for the first half of last season, or the second half?

He'll be 32 in January, for the record.

He came back from his knee injury for spring training, then suffered a sports hernia. After missing 1/2 off the beginning of the season, he came back and hit somewhere around .300. If memory serves, he had about a 20-25 game hit streak in the second half of the year.

Yeah, something like that... his numbers have been very good. I wouldn't be opposed if Detroit ate some of his contract, but it would definately be a risk.

Are you talking about Maggs or Guillen? Maggs is way overpaid, stunk in 05, and wasn't special in 04 either. I wouldn't want him.

I think he means Maggs, who is way riskier than Drew even.

Guillen missed time here and there all year because of a torn ACL the year before.

I can't stand it when people say that Drew dogged it, he's just a smooth player like Patterson, they have the ability to make it appear they are giving minimal effort b/c of their natural abilities in the field. Same thing with Sandberg.

But for an agent like Boras to put words like Mickey Mantle out there for someone who had not played in the majors, how can you fault the player? How many players since Mantle have duplicated his numbers?

Can't believe some would allow themselves to be disappointed by an idiotic claim from Boras, he's good for a dumb statements per year. That's not Drew's fault for your disappointment, that's your fault for unrealistic expectations.

I'd take a chance with Drew, be a heck of gamble, but he is productive.

He's overpaid, sure, but don't tell me he stunk.

Thought it might be time to pop this one back up to the top again...

I heard on the drive home from work tonight that that the Dodgers have offers in for both Kenny Lofton and Reggie Sanders. There has also been rumors in the past of a possible Lowe or Penny + extra's for Abreu. I just wonder if maybe Colletti might be willing to move Drew ?

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the Dodgers payroll can chime in, but they sure are spending a bit of money this offseason...$13MM a season for Furcal, $4.5MM for Mueller... I realize they are a big market team, but I thought McCourt was strapped? I just wonder if the Dodgers are going to unload some of their guys once they are done with their FA shopping.

Perhaps Hendry can move Williams & Walker with the Cubs picking up most if not all of Drew's salary. Granted, he's not as reliable (health wise) as Abreu, but he's younger, and does have the ability to post a .900 OPS when healthy ('when' being the key word, I know). I much rather prefer Drew than Jacque Jones, that's for sure.

Why not?

.302 .359 .436 in 82 games for a RF? That stinks.

The production's not the problem. .359 would have placed him 6th in the MLB in RF OBP last year.

It's the 82 games that's worrisome.

i've kinda given up hope that hendry can pull off a big trade like this one. i hope he proves me wrong, but i can't see him getting drew, abreu, dunn or even wilkerson. if the tejada thing falls into his lap, maybe. but otherwise, i don't think that he sees rf as a big a hole as we do.

it seems like he feels as though the 2005 club just needed some tinkering. i honestly think he felt this team was a leadoff guy, 2 relievers and john mabry away from winning the central. i think he'd be fine w/ burnitz-esque production from rf.

I'd love to have Drew, but did the Walker/Bradley deal fall through because of a stormy relationship between Coletti and Cubs management?

If so, how do they repair it quickly enough to bring me Drew?

I'd take either Penny or Lowe along with Drew.

I haven't figured McCourt out. He's been crying poor ever since he bought the Dodgers. Now all of a sudden it's like they struck Texas Tea. They're like kids in the candy store. They want one of everything.

I don't get it. Maybe they raised the price of Dodger Dogs. :-k

Haven't heard anything about Drew being on the block. Have heard that LA would like to move Lowe & Odalis Perez tho. If Drew is dealt, it would probably be for someone like Abreu.

Drew wants to and needs to play CF. He has said that the sudden stopping that occurs when he runs into the corner is too hard on his knees.

After sitting the year and not signing with the Phills after being drafted, I really don't see Drew going to Philadelphia.

He is a hated man in that city.

Maybe they can hire Mitch Williams and Joe Carter as base coaches??

That is exactly the way I feel too. I get the impression that Hendry thinks it was just a spate of infuries that doomed the Cubs last year. So if the pitching staff is healthy all he really needed to do was upgrade the bullpen and CF b/c Perez saved the Cubs at SS. It is as if he believes he can plug another Burnitz type in RF and the Cubs will be just fine.

I hope he is correct, but I am doubtful he is.

Well, if that's the case, he might not be playing CF with the Dodgers then. The NY Post is reporting this morning that the Dodgers may go to 5 years on Damon (eclipsing what BOS and NYY will do - 4 yrs). It also states that they've got a one year offer on the table for Nomar to play 1B.

Seems to me if the Dodgers keep landing some of these guys that they'll have some chips to deal.

Wow. If L.A. gives Damon a fifth year...wow. Other teams have to just walk away. What are the chances that Johnny Damon is worth $13M in 2009 and 2010, when he's 38 and 39?

Same chance that Sammy Sosa would be worth $18M LAST year
