I still think San Antonio would be a good place for a baseball team. The Saints have had a very good showing so far there and the Spurs are maybe the best runned organization in all of sports (I realize very different owners). Given the very large Latin and Hispanic market in the region I don't see why they couldn't fill 35,000 on a regular basis. The city want more professional sports involved, and I think would be more than willing to participate.

Another baseball team in Texas??

I was thinking a state that could use a major league team.

North Carolina (Charlotte), Indiana (Indianapolis), Louisiana (New Orleans), Utah (Salt Lake City), Oregan (Portland)...

A little tip for all markets with an MLB franchise: If you want to keep your team, pray it is never owned by Jeffrey Loria.

Its really stunning how terrible MLB is at bringing in quality ownership. Granted, Loria came on board with the hapless Expos whom nobody wanted and MLB was desperate for an owner, but contraction would have been a better option. Then, you have the more recent failure in ownership selection by the clown who bought the Dodgers. Luckily, they seemingly struck gold with Moreno. But, he is not without his detractors as he makes his enemies in the Anaheim area.

I honestly get amazed every time I think about how rich the owners are with some of the god awful decisions they have made over the years.

Montreal wasn't as hopeless as Loria would lead you to believe. He sabotaged the team from the get-go. I'll contend til the day I die he was sent there by Bud to kill it. Miami just took a few years longer than they expected thanks to that pesky WS getting in the way.

Charlotte.

I lived in NC for a year, and even though the NHL in Raleigh is a monumental failure, I wouldn't be surprised to see the MLB put a franchise there. The southern fanbase is strong, and would have only ATL to compete with. The Carolinas have a strong baseball tradition near the Coast, Piedmont and Lowlands. I think a ballclub - with solid talent like FLA currently has - would be very, very viable.

Don't forget that FLA also has a strong following in NC. The Mudcats are in Zebulon (near Raleigh), and a lot of people love Dontrelle and Miggy.

Plus, the Bulls are wonderfully popular, and the Charlotte Knights (Sox AAA team) has decent attendence considering the crap that's run through their farm system the last few years.

Carolina Baseball would work.

I think Raleigh is a good guess. I'll add Norfolk, Nashville and Northern New Jersey as destinations.

My guesses would be Indy, San Antonio, or Orlando. Maybe Portland.

I don't see why NYC couldn't support another team. Brooklyn, maybe, as the Bronx and Queens already have teams. They were able to support 3 MLB teams with a population half of what it is now, they can support a 3rd now.

No offense to any NSBB'ers here, but I was in Charlotte all of 1 time. I don't ever intend to go back. Maybe it's because my family stayed at a run-down Motel 6 in a very bad part of town, and that's most of my Charlotte experience, but I don't intend to go back. I don't think highly of the city.

Send the Devil Rays to New Jersey and the Marlins to Boston.

It'll never happen, but that would go a long ways toward eliminating some of the game's competitive imbalance issues.

Isnt there a team already occupying Boston? Guess not...

I have always wondered if Boston could accomodate 2 teams. I was a big advocate of temporarily relocating the Expos to Boston instead of that ridiculous Puerto Rico experiment.

After all, Boston does have some National League ties historically. In addition, its a baseball rich region. I dare say that the Red Sox fan base would likely remain safe due to its militance.

Yeah I can't think of a worse idea. There isn't a fan base less likely to embrace a second team. They'd get 2000 people a game until the cross town interleague series which would sell out.

I bet Steinbrenner would be all over buying them though. Bring on the crosstown rivalry!!!

Were it not for the robust resistance from the current NY and Boston ownership groups, I imagine baseball would jump at the chance to add new outlets in two of the most wealthy, media-saturated, baseball-hungry markets on the planet.

But that's just me.

Now to the baseball side, the Marlins' will now start having a payroll that reflects the revenue brought in each year. Expect the payroll to go down drastically to around $42-$45 million.

.

Get ready to see Delgado, LoDuca, Pierre, and likely Castillo traded.

Does anyone know the chance of Indy ever getting a team? I am moving there in a few weeks and would love to see a MLB team go there. I heard it mentioned once or twice in reference to the Expos but no one really discussed it in depth. I think the Indians do well there, but am curious about the feasiblity of an MLB team.

I don't think there is much in the works. Back in the '80s, there was some talk of relocating a team to Indy and a feasibility study was done, IIRC. This was shortly after the Colts move, so there was some minor momentum. In fact, I think they may have even floated a name (the Indianapolis Arrows?). I think it would be a difficult market with regard to current MLB expectations. Not to mention the fact that it sustains a very nice AAA facility presently. However, I don't live in Indy, so I'm sure there are people with more info than me.

Yep. Pre-strike they were one of the most talented and a good draw. Then Loria came in, alienated the fan base, held the team hostage, and basically ruined baseball for Montreal.

Although, to his credit, ruining baseball in Florida didn't exactly take much effort.

The Carolionas wouldn't be the worst of ideas, imo.
