Quentin had a very successful AAA season in the AZ organization, can play CF and RF, and AZ has a surplus of outfielders. He is a walk machine with some power. I think the Cubs could start him in CF in 2006 and slide him over to RF in 2007 if Pie pans out.

Any thoughts? Do the Cubs have spare parts that would interest the Diamondbacks?

Carlos Quentin is probably my favorite prospect and I would love him on the Cubs. That said, the Tuscon Sidewinders play in an extreme hitters park so his number must be taken with a grain of salt. Also not sure if he has the defense to man CF. I would definately go after him with the logjam Arizona has in the of/1b if I were Hendry.

EDIT: especially if we get an all hit/not so much defense LF through trade (Manny, Dunn, etc. ) because then Quentin would fit in perfectly in RF.

I'd love to target Quentin, but if we're expecting to play Murton in LF and Cedeno at 2b/SS, I think Hendry is going to look at more proven commodities.

I agree, which is one reason I can't see Hendry going with Mench or Kearns unless it's a last ditch, no other choice kind of trade.

Hey, kinda like the Burnitz signing. If he's worried about overpaying Giles and doesn't want to give up the talent to get Dunn....he might as well get it over with and trade for Mench and put us out of our misery. No other choice is not an excuse.

Of course it's not, but Hendry is a different kind of thinker than you or I. You or I would see Mench or Kearns as not enough. He would see them as toolsy players with big upsides.

Quentin and Vasquez for Williams and CPatt? Do they need a CF? If not, throw in Koronka or someone like that. Koronka showed over the fall he can pitch in Arizona

I think they'd need more than that. Vasquez is not just a salary dump for them; he requested to be traded, so they're probably not going to accept lesser value than the package is worth. Quentin is at least as valuable as Williams or CPatt, and Vasquez is overvalued because he's been a stud pitcher before.

I like Quentin a lot too and he's a good RF but Arizona is going to keep him. Tracy they may trade, Glaus they'd trade, Shawn Green or Gonzo they could trade - but they're keeping Quentin. I'd take Tracy too.

I wish I had thought of Quentin. :(

Heh.

Quentin is awesome. Yes, he played in 3 hitter's havens along the way to the big leagues (Lancaster, El Paso, Tucson), but he's still a very good hitter with great pitch selection. I wish he were a Cub.
