IG, what's your evidence that players don't improve under Self? His UI players generally got better. I love how Self gets no credit for improving Deron, Head, Dee, etc's game. Of course they were better last year than they were with Self. They were 2 years more mature. That doesn't mean Self didn't help them. It's like saying Roy Williams didn't deserve any of the credit for Wayne Simien. Of course he did. He coached him for 2 years.

But Self gets some credit for Wayne, too, and he was an A-A. Miles went from a player who couldn't shoot to a decent shooter who actually stuck with the league. In fact, I haven't looked it up, but I bet you more Self-coached players have played in the NBA than Weber's.

I just don't understand the unchecked bitterness of so many Illini fans. So many I talk to have a white Sox mentality when it comes to Self--they don't know what's better, for UI to win or Self to lose. Lame. I'm starting to hope Self steals every good player from Illinois just to spite UI fans.

um how about frank williams and brian cook not getting any better their entire careers under Billy boy and both flopping in the nba? they were both burger boys who bill really didn't help develop much at all. As for Bucknell Bill at least have the decency to let the players know that you were leaving to their faces like Roy did. Also try not to give anymore I am in this for the long haul speeches weeks before you leave us at the first sign of an upgrade. i hope that wright and collins do well because they are illinois kids, however i hope self gets fired and someone else comes in and finishes the job.

here here. Snood, the reason were bitter is because the guy flat out left us right when the Kansas job opened. Like illiniguy said, he didn't tell any of the players he was leaving until he basically left. Screw him. I have nothing really against the program of Kansas except the coach of it.

Yeah I can agree with this sentiment. I really thought you guys were fun to watch under Roy. you pushed the ball and didn't settle for a grind it down game. I mean sure I thought Roy was a tool at times, like the monkey thing off his back and all the dagums, but I was never anti-kansas and still am not. the minute Self is done there I will be fine with them again.

IU with another great offensive showing. 102 points. 2 straight games over 100, after not scoring triple digits in 4 years. Again IU was sick from the field shooting 59%, including 16-25 from 3. 29 assists on 36 baskets, just 13 TOs. All while missing yet another starter to injury (Sean Kline).

That game should put us atop of major college basketball with 100.3 points/game, .576 from the field, and .583 from 3pt range.

The South Carolina Gamecocks and Marquette (what did they decide on again?) are tied at 80 with under a minute to go in a heck of a game. Marquette just drained a deep three to go up by 4 but the '[expletive] came back with a three AND the foul to tie it up just seconds later.

wow that is straight filling it up. too bad dickie v hasn't even noticed anyone besides Duke all year and will probably talk about what a great shooter reddick is when the two teams meet. Go big ten.

ND beat Hofstra 69-50 after trailing at halftime, then got smoked by NC State (although the Pack are a good team) at the Wooden Tradition this weekend. Ouch.

Ball State bounced back from their pathetic showing against Oakland City and smacked around Wright State 71-50. Bring on Butler!

Next: Derrick Rose?

i can't freaking believe it. i retract all of my previous statements.

Me either, I too was beginning to get discouraged most especially after losing Collins. Scheyer I could understand, he was a Dookie the minute he picked a basketball but, I thought Collins was clearly headed for Illinois. Just maybe Weber can recruit after all...

weber needs to sell rose the way self sold collins--think about the backcourt you could play in, pooh. it could blow dee-deron out of the water.

yep looks like weber can recruit. Still gonna be a mid major though. If we can add Rose and Mbwakbe too this class to go with who we already have in the fold I think we will be a better aoll around team than we were last year. Sulley just remember that BAM is 80 and 8 or something in his two plus years here, I think we would have to all agree that is beyond most of ourwildest expectations.

I know that college basketball polls don't mean anything but why isn't Bucknell rated? They beat Syracuse in Syracuse and have the same starting 5 from last year that beat Kansas in the NCAA's.

They're 29th in the AP and 32nd in the Coaches.

They should be ranked and IMO it would be a nice thing to happen for a small program like that. They have earned it.

don't roll your eyes at me, i'm well aware of weber's successes. (sorry rocket) i've forgotten more about illini basketball than most know. i didn't just spend some time at the IB, glean some rumors and names, and call myself a fan. and you never answered my last post to you for some reason.

it's not beyond my wildest expectations because his team had it's shelves stocked by bill, who can recruit a little bit.

i'm pleased with weber's recruiting of gordon but he's got a ways to go. If he gets rose then he gets my respect as a recruiter.

They host number 4 Villanova a week from today. They'll definitely be up there if they can knock them off. Not to say that they shouldn't be there now, but they have another chance coming.

Ok there Sulley I am sure you are the most infinite knowledge of Illinois hoops there is, but if you are so in love with Bill Self and his recruiting don't be afraid to folow his new team. Bruce Weber has done a fine job. From everything I have seen of Brian Carlwell he seems to be a heck of a get. We beat Tom Izzo for him he seems to know his talent. But, he you have seen him and don't think much of him. Sorry I am gonna side with Weber and Izzo. Too me Marcus Liberty was a flop, when you get a number 1 player in America, especially in that time period, you expect him to be a two or three year starter. Also if I am not mistaken he also was a prop 48 kid that had to sit out a year. If he can play that first year then be a sophomore with game experience coming into 88-89 it might have made the difference in beating Michigan for the third time. I also am sour on him because about three years ago he had an interview where he said that if he would have went to a pregram like Syracuse he would have been a much better pro. GMAFB, Marcus if you could have spelled cat and been able to play right away at Illinois and actually stayed long enough to be the man in college I would think you could make that argument. But, now that we are allowing Marcus to run his fantasy camp at Illinois he is back in the fold. Sorry if I stepped on your toes oh master of everything Illinois.

Currently, the Challenge is tied up at 3 per side. Will the Big Eleven win the Challenge for the first time in its seven year run; or will the ACC continue its domination (minus Boston College) ?

Here are tonight's matchups (and my prediction):

Wednesday, Nov. 30

7:00 p.m. ESPN Georgia Tech at Michigan State

7:30 p.m. ESPN2 Minnesota at Maryland

8:00 p.m. ESPNU Northwestern at Virginia

9:00 p.m. ESPN Duke at Indiana

9:30 p.m. ESPN2 N.C. State at Iowa

-Georgia Tech isn't very good right now and it will take a while to get back to competing night in and night out with the big teams after losing all 5 starters. Michigan State takes this game by 15-20+ points (MSU)

-The Terps are too tough at home (MD)

-UVA is impossible to predict, but I will take them at home (UVA)

-Indiana is primed to take down the Dookies. I think they win this game; maybe in overtime (IU)

-State comes in with a strong defense; Iowa is well tested for this early in the season. (Iowa)

I give the ACC two locks tonight, one lock for the Big Eleven, and two swing games. I think the Big Eleven finally ends their embarrasing run against the ACC and pulls it out 6-5.

You picking IU? Cool. It's so on tonight! Watch for Rod Wilmont on Redick. He will be all over him. Also, if Ratliff comes back, those long arms will give Redick trouble. If Killingsworth can get Williams in foul trouble, IU will win. Of course, if they continue shooting 58% from the field, it won't matter if Williams scores 50.

Williams will get his, but the key is stopping McRoberts, who doesn't look for offense, but will likely see a lot of time vs. the 5" shorter Vaden or a freshman, Ben Allen. And always, gotta stick all over Redick. When's the last time an IU/Duke game featured a huge athletic advantage for the Hoosiers?

The crowd will be hype. Last time IU faced a #1 team in Bloomington, beat Michigan St on a last second 3. Last time IU faced a #1 Duke team, AJ Moye sent the shot block heard around the world.

Yep. I think tonight is a good chance for IU to get a real resume-maker of a win. This is one of those that can make the difference come seeding and location placement in the brackets.

Duke lost DeMarcus Nelson last week for at least 2 months. That is a big loss for their backcourt defense. If Williams gets into foul trouble, Duke has no chance.

Word around here is that he will play, which I think is huge. As long as the IU big men can avoid foul trouble, I think they have a real chance here. Davis has always been a good defensive coach. With the way they are scoring, they can be a real good team. The only thing that worries me is them relying on hitting 50%+ from 3. Hopefully Killingsworth will be a man again tonight.

Ball State lost their star player for the season today. An MRI tells us that Peyton Stovall - the leading returning scorer in the MAC this year - is gone for the year with a torn ACL - the same ACL that he hurt in last year's MAC Tournament. This means highly regarded freshman Maurice Acker will be pressed into service as a starter.

Just in time for Butler (who has lost to UM by 4 and taken O$U to overtime this season) to come in to Worthen Arena. :(
