I love seeing random Cubs videos, so thanks! Post more if you got em!

The funny thing about that video is, I was searching for it for weeks and eventually gave up. I had completely forgot about it when I found it Thursday night on a prosportsdaily forum as i was looking for cubs rumors. Destiny

Man that brings back good memories. I remember reading in the Sunday Tribune after that, and some guy wrote: "If the Cubs don't make the playoffs after a play like that, cancel the franchise." :(

I, to this day, have no idea how we almost made the playoffs that year with Bill Mueller missing most of the year (and being replaced by Ron Coomer), Damon Buford playing a prominent role, Matt Stairs playing first for half the year, our best pitcher being Jon Lieber, the immortal Jeff Fassero blowing games left and right out of the bullpen, etc. That was just a majorly overachieving team. What a fun season. :P

actually Fassero had a great year, as did Von Poppel, the Farns and Flash. combine that with one of the best single season offensive performances in history (Sosa).

I remember thinking that all we needed was McGriff to waive his no trade and the Cubs would make the playoffs. McGriff finally did waive the no trade, and the Cubs promptly tanked.

and if I recall correctly, Mongo stated he would have "some speaks" with the umpire. I still chuckle to myself about it.

That was a wild finish. I remember deciding to go out and get drunk to celebrate.

As for my first Cubs game, all I remember is that we were driving home and they announced on the radio that the Cubs had acquired Rick Sutcliffe from the Cleveland Indians right at the trade deadline. It turned out to be a pretty important day.

...and my hatred of Bonds strengthened...

Maybe. But Bonds was better, pure and simple. As ridiculous as it sounds with his stats in mind, Sammy didn't deserve it that year.

Yeah, that was tough to swallow. I think Sosa's OPS was 1.170-something and Bonds' was over 1.300. Too big of a gap to really consider Sosa. However, had we ended up in the postseason, I'm sure the writers would've given it to him, or at least thought about it.

The 2nd-best hitter in the Giants' lineup that season was then-defending MVP Jeff Kent.

The 2nd-best hitter in the Cubs' lineup was Fred McGriff, and only for half a season. In the other half of that season, the 2nd-best hitter in the Cubs lineup was Rondell White.

That's why I thought Sammy deserved it.

I attended this game on my visit to Chicago in August '01. It was incredible. I was in the bleachers for that one.

The next day, or two days later, I forget, but it was about 110 degrees and Felix Heredia gave up a bomb to Mike Hampton. Sammy hit 3 solo HR's that day. I think I had a new found appreciation for OBP after that game. The Cubs lost 14-5.

I was there. Actually it was my first game at Wrigley. Pretty wild, especially considering it was also the infamous Steve McMichael game.

You the man, you the man.

My first game was in 1989 and the Cubs beat the Expos, iirc the score was 6-4. It was in August and the Cubs were in a tight division race. Of course they went on to the playoofs, but lost to SF, I believe. My most memorable game was in 1998 when Sosa hit 3 homers against Milwaukee in a game and Kerry Wood struck out 15.

edit: Wood struck out nine that game 6/15. In 1989, it was a win by Maddux which gave the Cubs the division lead over a hot Expos team, then they never looked back.

I don't recall my first Cubs game too well...I do remember Bill Buckner getting a game winning hit, and Fergie Jenkins started the game. I don't think I was but 6 years old at the time.

my first Cub game was a 4-2 (?) win over the Reds in May 2000. Tapani was the starting pitcher, and got the win. I never had so much fun in my life, all of us yelling "COME ON TAP" the whole game. At that point, I had been a Cub fan for over a decade, but that was still so affirming and fun.
