I asked you guys if anyone knew where to find video of the wild walkoff Ricky Guttierez tripping around 3rd and the wacky baserunning play in 2001 and no one replied - well i found it. The picture is pretty bad because it is taped from someone's TV but here it is.. let the memories return....

I was there. Actually it was my first game at Wrigley. Pretty wild, especially considering it was also the infamous Steve McMichael game.

"Oh don't worry about that umpire.. I'll have a word with him after the game.."

I was there with my dad. It was oppresively hot that night in the upper deck. No breeze, high humidity, and tempers were running high. Someone threw a golf ball at Angel Hernandez after calling Coomer out at home earlier in the game I remember Todd Helton hitting a ball that still might not have landed yet out to left, and I remember going nuts at that ending.

I also very nearly got into a fistfight with some drunk on the el, because he nearly knocked a 9 year old girl onto the track because he was shoving his way to the front.

Good times.

That game was just legendary.

Mongo nearly killed me. I was laughing so hard---Angel Hernandez was just standing there, face beet-red, fuming at Mongo up in the booth. Then the crazy play at the end.

My Goodness. What a great memory. Thanks for posting that :D

That was probably, between Mongo and the Gutierrez play, my 2nd-favorite regular season game of all time.

The 1st, of course, being the division-clinching game in 03. :D

What a first game.

I don't remember much of my first game, except for Andre Dawson singled and they won. I think they played the Pirates? I'm pretty sure it was 1992.

But they should show that game on ESPN Classic from time to time. Definately one of the best regular-season games I've ever seen. That was just nuts.

I also remember that day because my dad came home about the 4th inning or so because he lost his job. But he has a good one now, so it's all cool.

I'm so jealous. My first game was a very boring 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh in 2000, the only highlights being solo homers by EY and Sammy.

I don't remember my first game, I did go to a game in 2001 where Sammy hit 3 homers and GMJr made that great sliding barehanded over the head catch.

What did McMichael Do?

Earlier in the game, the ump blew (and I mean really blew) a call at home plate. He called the Cubs runner out when he was clearly safe. I don't think he was doing that great of a job on balls and strikes either.

Anyway, Mongo gets up to sing, and before the music starts says something like "Don't worry, I'm gonna have a talk with that home plate umpire after the game!" Hernandez did the "you're out of the game" gesture, and Mongo was ejected from the stadium.

But damn, was it funny.

I'm pretty sure Mongo said, "I'll have speaks with the home plate umpire after the game." I think the fact that Mongo said "speaks" was every bit as funny as Angel's response.

Yeah, he did say speaks. Then he blew Angel Hernandez a kiss.
