  1. Tommy Lasorda was almost certainly the most successful. Some others are Dallas Green, Larry Rothschild, and Larry Dierker.
  2. If by some cash you mean $50 million, then yes.
  3. Zito spent 3 months on the DL (for the first time in his career), due to a foot sprain/strain. I don't think you can draw any real conclusions in regard to the efficacy of his performance from a 50 inning sample.
  4. Yeah, I don't see the Red Sox taking on Soriano. I think they'd sooner resign Ortiz for another go-round. But I wouldn't put it past Sabean to acquire an aging, rapidly declining veteran like Soriano. The Giants' outfield is going to look a little sparse next season anyway with Beltran and Cody Ross hitting free agency. They're basically left with Andres Torres and Brandon Belt. Torres is coming off a miserable year, and they don't seem in a hurry to give Belt a real opportunity.
  5. Zito's contract matches up pretty well. 2012: $19 2013: $20 2014: $18 or $7 buyout We'd probably have to cover the difference in '14, but I think I'd take Zito over Soriano. Plug him in as the 5th starter, and hope for 180 innings. Given that he and Soriano will probably put up a similar WAR. Given the option, I'll take 1-2 WAR from my 5th starter rather than of my LF.
  6. A couple off the top of my head: Daric Barton (1B/DH - A's) Franklin Gutierrez (OF - Indians) Billy Butler (OF - Royals)
  7. Chad Billingsly Joel Guzman Andy LaRoche Jonathon Broxton to name a few.
  8. I think Chad Orvella will be just fine, despite his lackluster Spring.
  9. Link They got RHP Jeff Bajenaru, a soon to be 28-year old reliever.
  10. Considering Brian Roberts almost had his arm torn off last year, I'd be a little wary.
  11. That doesn't mean he's actually good enough to do it. I'm not saying he couldn't, but I've only seen him out there for an inning. It wouldn't be wise to trade for someone, expecting them to play a position they have next to no experience at playing. Of course, we are talking about Jim Bowden here. Surely even he wouldn't make the same mistake twice in the same offseason. No, no, he probably would.
  12. I'm not sure Washington would want Walker, seeing as they want Soriano to move to LF. They'd probably also prefer a starting pitcher, since they just lost Brian Lawrence for a good chunk of the season (if not the whole season).

    Closers

In the Yahoo drafts I've done Gagne has gone between rounds 6 and 8. Not nearly as high as a few years ago.

    Closers

David Weathers - Reds Chris Reitsma - Braves Joe Borowski - Marlins Those are the 3 most obvious guys that are being overlooked. Keep an eye on Craig Hansen in Boston if Foulke falters.
  15. BP has a similar feature.
  16. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. If Jason Bay continues at the level he played at last year, and Oliver Perez returns to his form from a few seasons ago, and Zach Duke and one of their other young pitchers step up, then I could see them pushing 75 wins. I think 80 is about the best they can hope for, but a lot will have to go right for that to happen.
  17. My guess is Lowell will get the most playing time out of those four. He'll probably give you the most production too. The fact that he's 2B eligible this year makes him a very attractive low risk, high reward pick.
  18. 1994 and 1995 were his only real injury plagued seasons prior to the trade.
  19. The Reds gave up Mike Cameron, Brett Tomko, Jake Meyer, and Antonio Perez. Griffey was a far superior player at the time of that trade than Tejada is now. He had put up 4 consecutive seasons with a .950+ OPS. Tejada currently has zero such seasons to his name.
  20. I was there. Actually it was my first game at Wrigley. Pretty wild, especially considering it was also the infamous Steve McMichael game.
  21. Not really. They have Mark Ellis who is only 28, and he put up a solid .316/.384/.477 this season in 122 games.
  22. Against righties he has a 70 contact rating and a 60 power rating. His defense is underrated, though he has a strong and accurate arm. He correctly sucks against lefties.
  23. I don't think Dubois will be DH'ing for the Indians, seeing as they have Travis Hafner filling that spot. He's not much of a fielder himself.
  24. Thank God. Let's just hope Hendry finds someone a little less crappy instead.
  25. Maybe an option of "no MLB contract" would cover retirement, Japan, and minor league contracts and the guy who just gets no offers. From the instructions at the top of the contest page:
