I dont get it with Manny. Now he wants to go to the Mets!!???

To summarize the article the trade idea is:

Mets would get:

Manny Ramirez

Red Sox would get:

Mike Cameron, Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman, and Yusmeiro Petit

Wow, Boston makes out like a bandit in that deal.

Yep. A CF to replace Damon, and 3 of the best prospects in the Minors?

I'd trade Aramis for that.

This sounds like a made up trade, like something you'd hear on sport talk radio. No way do the Red Sox get those players in a trade for Manny. At best, they might get 2 of the 4 (like, say, Cameron and Petit). Then again, the Mets did trade Scott Kazmir for Zambrano the Lesser.

If you read the article more carefully, the Red Sox get Cameron and only two of the three prospects, not all three.

Take out Heilman, no big deal. Boston still makes out like a bandit.

Petit is the real deal, if the Mets trade away both Kazmir AND Petit in a 2-year time frame, their minor league system should simply be shut down. I mean, we're bad with our prospects, but giving up on Kazmir and Petit is downright irresponsible.

blame kazmir on steve phillips.

I wouldn't go that far with Petit since he struggled at AAA in 2005, but yikes, I'd be all over Cameron, Milledge and Petit for Manny. I think it's a fake rumor though, no way the Mets would give up that much for Manny.

I think the biggest story for the Cubs about this possible trade is that the Red Sox would no longer have a spot for Damon. The Red Sox would need to replace Manny's offensive production in LF. Moving Damon over there would make their offense worse. So Damon would have one less suitor making him more of a viable option for the Cubs. He may no longer be worth 10 million bucks a year.

The only way I want Damon near the Cubs is on a 2 year deal. Anything more than that and he can go take his noodle arm elsewhere.

If you can get Damon for 3 years and between 24 and 27 million I think you need to take it and play him in left moving Murton to right. If the Cubs sign Damon to play left i think that would mean we would need to push to trade for Milton Bradley to play center and to add to bat fifth.

If the Cubs sign Damon to play left i think that would mean signing Furcal is out of the question. You would need to sign Nomar to play short and give us some more pop in the lineup.

you don't get more "pop" in the lineup by taking up a corner OF spot with Damon.

Sorry Meat&Potatoes, Steve Phillips is an idiot and I'm sure he would had traded Kazmir for somebody of lesser talent (Kent Bottenfield, perhaps?) then Zambrano (besides Phillips was fired a FULL yr or so before Kazmir was dealt). But the "winner" of the idiot who traded Kazmir for Zambrano is Jim Duquette, the COUSIN of Dan "Boston Idiot" Duquette.

So how does the value of this trade change if Boston eats a bunch of Manny's salary? Does it still suck for the Mets? If they get Manny Ramirez for three more years at a severely discounted price, that could very well put them right into the thick of things. And what if Milledge is the one they don't trade?

By the way, these questions are not rhetorical. I really don't know, and I'm not taking one side or the other; I'm just asking what you guys think about it.
