Jeter actually had a decent year on D.

I would have gone:

Varitek

Erstad (though, Teixeira was a good choice)

Hudson

Chavez

Cabrera

Crawford

Wells

Ichiro.

Didn't Hunter miss at least half the season?

He played in 98 games (fielded in 93 games) and had a .987 fielding %

Jeter again...

I can't stand Jeter. Most overrated player of all time, bar none.

I also think a lot of Yankees-haters don't appreciate how good Jeter actually is.

Overrated? Sure. Great? Yes. Most overrated player of all time? God no.

What he said. (God, I can't believe I'm agreeing with Rocket):P

I'm totally with Rocket here too (although I guess I'm not all that surprised by it). Jeter's pretty durn tootin' good (DISCLAIMER: this does not mean that I actually LIKE him). I do believe, though, that he's probably a tad overrated.

Upon further review Jeter wasn't such a terrible choice after all. I still would have gone with Julio Lugo or Juan Uribe but Jeter would probably be 3rd.

The real question is Varitek, who was far behind a lot of people in a lot of categories. No doubt that Victor Martinez should have gotten it instead.

Fewer Win Shares than Eckstein and Furcal and we're going to use pretty damn good?? Don't tell ESPN that Jeter is statistically worse than Eckstein...

If he didnt come with the Yankee pricetag (20 mil, ouch), tell me you wouldnt want him on your team.

Well I wouldn't have a problem with him on the Cubs, but I wouldn't have a problem with a lot of people on the Cubs at SS, the four people ahead of him in WS included.

Doesn't mean he's not massively overrated. he was the third best shortstop in the AL for quite some time while people were saying he's one of the best players ever (and was getting paid as what, 3rd most?)

But I suspect I think he has been much more highly rated than you do.

These gg's were a joke like they always are.

Variteck is a butcher as a catcher there is a reason he never catches for wakefield

Erstad is by far the best defensive 1B in the AL.... although Tex is good too.

Hudson is a fine pick

Jeter is avg. to below avg. in fielding for a SS and I can think of at least 4-5 other guys who deserve it more especially Cabrera

Chavez is a good pick

Wells was ok nothing really special but not 2 upset with that pick

Hunter missed almost half the season and its a joke he won 1

Ichiro is well deserving

Than Kenny Rogers was a bogus pick 2.... he is not as good as he used to be and this should of been the 1st season neither him or mussina won it....

The way I see it is....Jeter ain't even the BEST GG caliber SS on his OWN team (coughsARODcoughs) much less the AL.

And yes....IMO, Jeter is a 2B playing out of position at SS. And yes, Jeter is massively overrated, simply because of the amount of $$$ he is making---which BTW, is slightly less then $20 mill per yr). If DJ would be making around 8-10 mill per, he'd be one of the game's best, but at $19.6 mill, he is GROSSLY overrated. Besides, would we even be talking about Jeter if he was on a small market team, say...Detroit (his home town team)?

No. Fine player, Jeter is....but make no mistake he is BASEBALL's most overrated player.

No kidding. The only joke bigger than him winning a gold glove is that A-Rod moved to third so he could stay at SS.

Hahaha I can't wait to hear Yankee fans talk about how great Jeter is, in part because of his two Gold Gloves. These awards are worthless, can we get a defensive award that actually awards good defensive players?

What? GOOD players? That doesn't make any sense...

Probably controversial around here, but very good cases could be made for Juan Uribe and Aaron Rowand deserving GGs. Certainly above Jeter and the injured Hunter.

Varitek winning (shocking considering I-Rod is still an excellent defensive catcher) is a joke. There aren't many good metrics for pitchers' fielding, though I do think a pitcher's pickoff move should be considered more than it appears to be.

The rest of the picks are OK, IMO.

Any guesses for the NL?

I'm predicting:

1B: Lee

2B: Castillo

3B: Lowell

SS: Furcal

C: Matheny

OF: Jones

OF: Edmonds

OF: Abreu (apparently -- yuck)

P: Maddux
