  1. In the Tenn/Birmingham game I can tell you a little about the Birminham roster. Ray Liotta is probably the best pitching prospect the sox have right now with the loss of the lefties to the Phillies. The stars of last years team are all gone too in Owens, Young, Sweeney, and Fields. Other noticable position players gone are Rowgowski and Stewart. This season only position players worth a damn are the SS Robert Valido, 2B Chris Getz, and 3B Micah Schnurstein. Also OF Collaro has a bunch of power but cant hit for avg worth a damn. Tommorow Laynce Broadway should also take the bump for Birmingam, he was the sox top draft pick last season.
  2. Well sure I guess it isnt a World Series since all the countries arent involved.... but really what would a japanese team do vs a MLB team. The Royals/Devil Rays would wipe the floor with the Japanese team that won their championship.
  3. Joe Crede? What exactly has he ever done lol... unless you just hate him for being good in the playoffs lol. I understand all the hate for Pierzynski I felt the same way when he was a Twin but he is the type of guy you love when he is on your team.
  4. Obviously the rankings will chance after f/a
  5. Dang! The Cubs look like they had a near dynasty in the 30s. Cubs NL titles prior to 1918: 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1885, 1886, 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1910. Must have been fun, though I bet people were pissed about that 20-year drought from 1886-1906. Its not to have all those winning years but it isnt like there were that many teams back than either.
  6. I hate the fact that AL awards are always out before NL. Why not both at the same time? The NL has seniority, so to speak. They should have all their award winners named first. Hows that?
  7. These gg's were a joke like they always are. Variteck is a butcher as a catcher there is a reason he never catches for wakefield Erstad is by far the best defensive 1B in the AL.... although Tex is good too. Hudson is a fine pick Jeter is avg. to below avg. in fielding for a SS and I can think of at least 4-5 other guys who deserve it more especially Cabrera Chavez is a good pick Wells was ok nothing really special but not 2 upset with that pick Hunter missed almost half the season and its a joke he won 1 Ichiro is well deserving Than Kenny Rogers was a bogus pick 2.... he is not as good as he used to be and this should of been the 1st season neither him or mussina won it....
  8. Another way to look at it is the Cubs had their chance in 2003  ...... whatever the case im not making any predictions on them until after I see what they do in f/a and if Wood/Prior both come into spring training healthy.
  9. Heard the same joke but the ending was the other way.... It really works both ways for whichever team is telling the story.... The real question is who told it first?
  10. wow that post is very knowledgable and detailed.....A course a lot can change after free agency... Thats when we will really know who has the better chance to do what.
  11. Just so people know thats not exactly a crazy thing to do in some other countries.....
  12. I think he absolutely deserves the LF job.... In my opinion the Tribune needs to step up and pay enough to get both Furcal and Giles..... and I think Patterson should get one last shot at CF but bat him 7th in the lineup and dont move him around all the damn time.
  13. When is it required to be smart to be a baseball player lol.... anyways Jenks has grown up a lot since he was first drafted.... Having a wife and kids is probably the main reason.
  14. Well Jenks has a 100 mph fastball and a curve that some say is a better pitch than his fastball.... also this was his only year in the majors so dont think he will regress should get better. All im saying is Garland and Cotts especially could get even better rather than worse or the same....Also keep in mind with B-Mac as a starter the Sox will have El Duque in the pen 2 which he can be very effective and wont wear his arm out. I think Derrek Lee is for real btw.... maybe not quite as good as the first half but he always had the tools to do this.... If the cubs can keep walker and than sign an actual real leadoff hitter he can win the MVP easy... especially if the cubs sign Giles and have Ramirez behind him...
  15. Yeah, the Sox aren't exactly a budding dynasty. they could get better and younger though if they go with McArthy and Anderson in the outfield. Plus they have Sweeny and Chris Young in the wings. I don't think they are a dynasty but they did just win the freaking world series. Sweeney needs to hit more than 1 HR in a full minor league season for me to think highly of him. Chris Young is still a high-risk, high-reward prospect. We'll see how McCarthy and Anderson do next year (it'd be a shame if Brian Anderson wasn't starting next year in their OF). No doubt their farm system is better than the Cubs, but it's not like these young kids are studs, outside of maybe Young. Chris Young is Felix Pie, yet we are all pumped over Felix. It's not wise to be that pumped over Felix or Chris Young yet, they both have some work to do to be quality big leaguers. I think its fair to be pumped about both players... Yes right now they are still only prospects but 2 be pumped up about what both possibly can be in the future...... Although people have to understand that their is a chance they wont make it but its ok to be excited. As for everyone saying the White Sox players having career years.... Other than Contreras who always had the "stuff" please name 1. And im throwing this out there 2... pitchers dont have career years at 26... when pitchers have career years its like what Loaiza did in his 30's. Cliff Politte, Dustin Hermanson, Neil Cotts. I grant you that Cotts is young, at least. But still... ERAs in the low 2's for each of them? Ok for sure Ill give you Cliff Politte he had a great season his best in the majors.... With Cotts like you said he is young only his 2nd full season in the majors so unless he sucks the rest of his career it cant be considered that. As for Hermanson if you look he was great as a reliever for the giants. He had 2 bad innings giving up 4 runs each and than basicly shutout the rest of the time. Also for how great he was the first half of the season he was a total non-factor in the 2nd half with his back. Nothing is guaranteed but also for someone to say the cubs are closer is dumb. If the Cubs bring in some big F/A's and our healthy to begin the season I like their chances though. In my mind the Cards are crumbling and on the decline and the Astros unless Clemens returns and they add another impact bat in the lineup so yeah...
  16. Ive heard a lot of astro fans call him the anti-rivera and like you said Bry yung kim or whatevr..
  17. Yeah, the Sox aren't exactly a budding dynasty. they could get better and younger though if they go with McArthy and Anderson in the outfield. 18. The Sox still have a lot of work to do... But if Frank Thomas is fully healthy and we bring back Konerko.... its possible we return. People keep saying our pitchers had career years well..... Buehrle and Garcia sure didnt and Garland is 26 when did pitchers have their best year at 26? Also B-Mac is an upgrade over El Duque for a starter..... If Contreras is the real deal we sure as hell can repeat if not it will be hard with the emergence of the Tribe in the central. As for the Cubs I still stand by increasing payroll adding Furcal and Giles and than maybe keep Patterson and bat him like in the 7th spot of the order. Furcal Walker Lee Giles Ramirez Barret Patterson Murton Pitcher
  19. I know for one we have no interest in Edmonds and the rumor or whatver is a bunch of bs... a course by showing that picture you could be just joking
  20. Well if you saw him while in the minors you wouldnt of seen much of his slider because they didnt want him to have any arm injuries of the sort since he is so young and the slider puts a lot of stress on the arm.
  21. I think you mean his slider... which is apposed to be one of the best in the major leagues...
  22. I guess my other post got deleted anyways... AJP fit in perfectly with the Twins but didnt with the Giants.... and he has fit in perfectly with us... But with his personality it leads me to believe that he is the type of player who is either going to fit in perfectly with your team or like in San Fran be a cancer. But in the Sox case if they can deal with Everett im guessing Pieryznski is no big deal
  23. AJP was not a good signing. He's a clubhouse cancer (it takes a lot to be a bigger jerk than Barry in SF and AJ pulled it off), and if he wasn't buddies with Hawk Harrelson he would never have been sniffing a Sox uniform anyway. Iguchi I can give Williams credit for, he was pretty good for them, although it's worth noting that he struck out 114 times this season and was nothing special in the field (14 errors). The fact remains, though, that he unloaded a 35-home run hitter for a mediocre leadoff hitter in Podsednik (.313 OBP in 2004) and then plugged in Dye to fill the outfield spot, who hadn't had a good season this millennium and somehow ripped off a .274/31/86 for them. Calling Williams a "clown" is probably overstating the case, but his moves this off-season really weren't that good. He was made to look smart because all those moves came through in spades with Dye having his best year since 2000 and Podsednik having the best of his three seasons in the majors. This Sox team really had marginally better talent than the 2004 version but had the advantage of about 10 players having their best years ever. How do you know that AJP is a clubhouse cancer? SF was the only place he's played where he wasn't loved by his teammates. He is still well liked by guys he played with in Minnesota, and is loved in Chicago. He isn't a cancer, maybe more of a edgy guy, something the team needed. And if you think AJ is a cancer, look at your "35 homer guy" Carlos Lee. He has no hustle on the basepaths, in the field, and he walks about as much as Tony Womack. How do I know? AJP was literally run out of San Francisco. He kneed a Giants trainer in the balls during his one-year tenure. The Sox teammates like him because he's like most of the rest of them and the SF teammates were not. The man almost approaches the personality of Barry Bonds, except that he doesn't put up ludicrous steroid-influenced numbers in the process. His smartass comment about not feeling lucky about the Game 2 ALCS win was a pretty good indicator. Maybe the smartass comment had a lot more to do with him being hated for running down to first, when it was the umpire that had everything to do with the blown call. And, if he's a cancer, what does that make Carlos Lee? SARS? Bird Flu? Would you stop being an ass? If your a rational soxfan your not going to come to a cubs board and question them about everything. AJP is different thats for sure. In some clubhouses he can be a cancer in some he wont. He was a perfect fit for the twins but didnt fit in well with the Giants. I like him as a sox and him, Rowand, and Crede supposedly are really good friends now but yeah in the wrong circumstances he can be a cancer.
  24. Idonno the whitesox were outdrawing the cubs in the 80's 2 at least the early 80's....
