Can we stop pretending this team is a playoff contender now?

requoted for emphasis

Seriously. This team really isn't that much better than the 2003-04 incarnation.

Bring on the draft.

The Bulls are done. Lets hope for a good draft

i just looked at both the Bulls and 76ers schedules and the Bulls have a far easier schedule for the final 14 games...I wouldn't say we are out of it totally, but a loss to the Hornets on Friday would probably seal the deal.

Yea, but the problem is the fact the Bulls havent strung together a good 5 or 6 game stretch all year. I find it hard to believe they will do it now. They are inconsistent as hell. A good offseason however, could have this team as a top team in the East.

yeah i agree with you. Missing the playoffs definitely wouldn't be that bad of a thing this year. Like you said, a good offseason can have us right up there again as one of the top 4 teams in the East.

The Bulls lead the Hornets 44-42 in the 2nd after an abominable start.

Gordon and Chandler have been replaced in the lineup by Duhon and Sweetney, and Nocioni steps in for the injured Malik Allen. Skiles said as the rationale that Gordon and Chandler did their best work off the bench last season.

A mini-run puts the Bulls up 81-75 with 5 minutes to play. Gordon has 22 and (ironically) has probably earned himself a seat on the bench for the foreseeable future because of his strong play today off the bench.

Bulls win 96-82, led by Gordon's 25, Deng's 17 and 7 and Chandler's 21 boards.

I think we have a new starting lineup.

The Philly loss puts the Bulls within 2.5 of the 8th seed.

With 12 games left, right?

It's possible I suppose. We do have a home/home with Philly coming up. Upcoming schedule is Boston, Orlando, Charlotte. That's very winnable. Philly has Detroit, Indiana, Cleveland in the immediate future.

Bulls need to pull it together. Any more 4 game losing streaks and its over.

Gordon and Chandler's performances the last 2 games = 6th or 7th seed for the Bulls if it continues the rest of the season.

Gordon had an amazing double-pump runner to put the Bulls in the lead late, and Tyson had a couple of unreal blocks, including one reversal of a Paul Pierce jam attempt that made me legitimately leap out of my seat and yell "WOW". And clutch FT shooting from Ben and Kirk sealed it.

The Bulls can beat Orlando, Charlotte and Boston (for the sweep in Boston's case!) and put themselves in phenomenal position this week. Let's hope they do it.

Combined record of those teams:

74-137 (.351)

Of the 3 next opponents, the worst team--Charlotte--is the one we face on the road.

This week is set up very nicely for the Bulls. If they can't take care of business it's their own fault.

for whatever reason, we suck against Charlotte this year. We are only 1-2 against them and that one win was on opening night when we came back from 22 down to win. But the game this week is far more important than the ones that we had earlier in the year.

1 1/2 out with 12 games left..I feel very confident that we can still make it with our moderately weak schedule against Philly's schedule.

I still vote 2 lottery picks over a 1st round defeat in the playoffs. Although the odds are slim, there is still that sliver of a chance that both picks are in the top 3, which would be huge.

How have our recent lottery picks fared? Curry? Brand? Chandler?

I'd rather make it 2 playoff appearances in a row, take our top 3 pick from New York, and in the process become a more attractive destination for veteran players who can help us now. That 2nd pick will still be reasonably high in the 1st round.

I wish that wasn't the case, but vets in this league seem to favor winning ballclubs over the also-rans, more so than in the other big sports. I guess it's because they know they are going to get paid anyway. I think it's time to start focusing on bringing in legitimate veteran talent. We have alot of young guys.

Gordon, Hinrich, and Deng don't count? They were all lottery picks. And Brand's a pretty darn good player.

Meh, the Bulls have a better shot at beating the Pistons in the first round then ending up with two top three picks in the draft.

Agreed. Brand for Chandler might be the worst Chicago trade of my lifetime.

When do young guys stop being young guys? The Bulls have no rookies of consequence this year. Gordon, Deng, Noch and Duhon will be third-year players next season. Hinrich will be in his fourth and Tyson in his sixth. The phrase legitimate veteran talent makes me think of Jalen Rose and cringe.

Worse than Artest, Brad Miller, and company for Jalen Rose?

Yep, close but Artest is crazy.

Worse than Pippen for used jock straps?

Yeah, Pippen was gone the following off season anyway. Trading a budding star after his second season tops them all.

Obviously you need to acquire good players, not a locker room cancer. But if you're saying because Jalen Rose is out there we shouldn't even try to add veteran production/leadership to this team, then with all due respect I'm glad Paxson has the job.

Chandler may be gone soon, too....

And who knows what will happen to Deng & Gordon? Shall we acquire another two lottery picks so we can move out the last batch of lottery picks?

Others may enjoy being the developmental team for others' future stars. I don't. I think it's terrible. Losing a player like Brand only convinces me further that we need to turn the tables and BRING IN someone else's lottery pick who is ready to turn the corner, instead of watching our own picks turn the corner elsewhere.

Juvenile shots aside, I'm saying the Bulls shouldn't trade away developing talent just to add NBA veterans. Paxson has been following that path to date, too.
