I'm jealous of the Brewers. If they do this right they will have the team I thought the Cubs would have had.

Yep. So many ways they can go. I would even try to trade Carlos Lee if I were them.

I'd be thrilled if the Cubs had an OF like Lee and the Brewers might be able to trade him....that sickens me. Jealous and now sick.

Lee's overrated. He racks up the triple crown numbers, but doesn't walk at all. He's the LH Garrett Anderson of 3 years ago.

I thought he did have a decent OBP?

Conversely, if the Cubs botch this offseason they could be the 5th best team in the Central.

And part of that is counting on Wood to be healthy. If Wood gives the Cubs over 180 innings this year I'll be very surprised.

Yeah, Hendry really has to add a quality starting pitcher to this group, considering Wood's health and Maddux's decline.

All Milwaukee needs to do is play their cards right, and they can have a 30m payroll finishing in the hunt for the playoffs for the next 5 years.

Why trade Bill Hall? If I was Milwaukee, I'd be penciling him in as the starting 3rd baseman over Helms. Helms can't stay healthy and Hall impressed in that role. Isn't Helms closer to free agency than Hall? If the Brewers can trade for a 3b, then Hall becomes a great role guy off the bench. This team could get scary good in the next few years. Heck, starting this year.

The Brewers should definitely be shopping Clark this offseason. With Krynzel the heir apparent at that position, they can try to get top dollar for Clark, something that is unfamiliar territory for the Cubs these days.

I like the Shoppach idea. He's basically useless behind Varitek. Now is probably a good time to move Overbay as well if Fielder is ready. This young team will start getting the fans attention soon enough, and Milwaukee will not only be able to pocket tons of cash, but they will have the ability to spend it when the moment is right.

I'd be really scared of that team in the coming years. This offseason, Milwaukee needs to have Carlos Lee, Geoff Jenkins, Wes Helms, Brady Clark and Lyle Overbay on the market and see what they can reel in.

Hall's a nice player, but he's like like. Big power numbers, but doesn't walk much. I don't know how good he is defensively either.

If I were them, I would go after a solid 3B (not sure who's out there, Mora in a trade?). Then I would try and trade Overbay or Lee and Clark for pitching. They could use a solid #2 arm, to push Davis and Capuano to the middle/bottom of the rotation.

.324

He had a pretty mediocre second half after an insane May and June.

Who would you rather be going into this offseason? The Cubs or the Brewers. Both teams seem to have some good young talent. Both teams could use an upgrade at starting pitching. The Cubs have alot more money to spend and the Brewers seem alot more committed to using younger players. For long term success I think I would rather be a Brewers fan. Cubs may be better next year but probably will not do things that will build long term success.

Since the Brewers seem to be going in the youth direction and have a nack for finding/developing CFs, anyone think they would do a swap of Clark for CPatt? If the Cubs need to throw in some pitching, then who?

i dnot think they would trade Clark to us. I would be extremely happy to get Clark for CPatt and Mitre and Wellmeyer. Some reason I dont think the Brewers would do that though. I wouldnt throw them too much value for Clark.

That's overpaying to an incredible degree. I don't think Corey's actual talent is anywhere near as bad as it was this past season and the Cubs have been jerking around Mitre and Wellemeyer since 2003. I don't like the idea of Mitre and Welly being coached by Mike Maddux unless he's in Cubbie blue.

I like Clark and all, but not to that degree.

If theres a GM position in baseball that I would want it would be for the Milwaukee Brewers. They have great position prospects stuck behind very good cheap major league players. Which means lots of fun trading. They have a little bit more money to work with but like I said, I dont think spending an extra 5M on a vet is going to make or break this team. Now using that to sign 5 substantially talented draft picks is going to have a significant impact on the team in the future. Plus theres not a lot of pressure. Sure the DRays have lots of good talent but I'll take any team not in the same division as the bosox and yanks. The brewers are the new indians, only even better. They should be smart and be able to churn their young studs the year before FA to continune to replenish their org.

They do lack the pitching depth that a team like them would need to really compete down the line. There are some guys in their system I like, but unless Capellan steps up, there aren't many guys in that system to my knowledge who can come in and round out that rotation effectively.

Then again, with the right trades, that will officially be a non-issue...
