Ehh. Personally I love the guy. When he's not K'ing because he's swinging for the fences, he's awesome. He may not be 100%, & he may not be the best 3B, but he's one of our best hitters.

?????

Yeah, that's a fairly odd statement.

Just went through the thread and was waiting to see if anybody commented on that line. The guy has 120 K the past two years, each time putting up a 900+ OPS. Only Vladdy had a higher OPS/lower K total. Now, part of that low K total is due to missed games, but even if he played a full season he would have had a very acceptable number. People's hatred for the K skews their analysis of a player all to often. He could stand to walk a little more often, but you can't complain about Aramis's production.

The only legit knock on him is his conditioning, which can, and must, improve.

Yeah, the Cubs finally found a good third baseman, who just happens to be one of the most productive in the game. So, what should they do? Trade him.

Morans.

Edit: Have I been posting here long enough to use "Morans" without looking like a "Moran" myself?

Plus the related concern of durability, as well.

This is why I wish the Cubs would overpay for a left handed hitting 1st/3rd baseman that can play a corner OF for the bench. Is there one out there like that?

I think you'll see that improve this offseason.

Yeah Tim, I think the durability is tied to the conditioning.

I'd like to see if Toronto is trying to dump Hinske's $4m salary. He'd be a solid backup for 3rd and 1st, as well as a potent bench bat. He's a little pricey, but it's not a longterm contract, and the one thing the Cubs have in their favor this offseason is payroll room.

Interesting thought....I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Toronto move him. Since there are not that many 3rd baseman available this off season, unless the non-tendered list has some, I could see a team taking a shot at Hinske. If he could only play some OF to get more AB's for the Cubs because Lee will play 158 and who knows about Ramirez.

Does he have a personal trainer?

He's training with Bonds this off season.

I'd love to hear that Ramirez is going to improve his conditioning which imo would help his durability.

I believe Mark O'Neal has been quoted as saying that someone will be working with both Z and ARam this winter, on diet, stretching and conditioning.

Am assuming they had someone working w/ them last year too. Hence I wouldn't get my hopes up.

You know what they say about people who assume...

I'm pretty certain they didn't do this last year.

They didn't. I'm positive.

I wouldn't take any of this too seriously. I think the people that are upset with Ramirez are upset because he is seen as "dogging" it on routine plays rather than "hustling."

However, watching a game earlier this year they said that Dusty had told Ramirez to "play smart" by which he meant, your legs already hurt and you are FAR more valuable in the line-up day-in day-out to risk getting a season ending injury (like he did when he "hustled") even if it would mean getting on base.

Look, I promote as much as the next guy that the 27 outs are precious commodities and not to be treated lightly, but I would GLADLY give up the maximum 3-4 times per year where if he "hustled" he would be safe instead of out to have a HEALTHY Ramirez for the whole season (getting base hits that don't require hustle, lashing drives to the gap, and giving souvenirs to fans on Waveland than watching Macias "hustle" and still ground out weakly to 2B!).

I see it as an "old school" mentality that is fine if you are dealing with an otherwise healthy player but falls apart when looking at a player who has chronic problems with his legs. In short, I would like to see Patterson "hustle" and will tolerate dogging on the part of Garciaparra and Ramirez when they are hitting well!

Didn't they put Z on a cottage cheese and broccoli diet one or two seasons ago to get his weight down?

I'd like to see Russell Branyan on the cubs to back up the corner spots.

The Cubs are not "fed up" with Ramirez, and Jim Hendry is not trading him. End of story.

And that's why it's awesome to have Bruce Miles on this board - speculative thread killer.

Thanks Bruce :D

Instead of "distingushed guest" under his name (which he is), I think it would be awesome to have "threadkiller."

Either one is cool.

Thanks, Bruce. Once again you set us straight.
