Hey Bruce, I see you're online. What was the mood of the Angels after the game?

Irate would probably be a good word.

i wonder if that ump typically makes a fist for a strike call?

if so, then dr martin's stance is a good one.

Give the White Sox credit for taking advantage of the extra out.

But that call will always be a black mark against the White Sox for the rest of this series. I hope the umpires bend over backwards to make it up to the Angels.

This just came to mind; anyone remember the first "Police Squad" movie? Leslie Nielsen was the home plate umpire and had to do everything in his power to keep the game from going into the bottom of the seventh or else the Queen of England would die. So he was calling guys safe when they were obviously out trying to extend the inning. He even got into a shoving match with another umpire to keep from calling a third out. The movie was the beginning--and end--of Reggie Jackson's movie career. Hilarious.

I'm looking for a similar scene from the umpires Friday night to make amends to the Angels.

That's what he's saying on the press conference. He clearly lifts his arm sideways in one motion, then makes another motion to make a fist. To me, it looked like a "strike" then "out" motion.

What was even more appalling was how cocky and arrogant all the WS players and fans were when AJ scored. Like they all didnt know that run was majorly gifted to them. As soon as that call was made, I knew they would win. Pure crap.

The umpire made an initial signal out to the right to signal the strike, then made a separate motion to pump the fist to ring up the out.

They are cocky and arrogant because they celebrated winning a playoff game? AJ even said in his interview he didnt know if it hit and wasnt cocky about it at all he just gave Crede credit for getting the hit. I know you guys hate the White Sox and its understandable but there was nothing arrogant about what AJ did.

I'm guessing if this happened to "Cardinal Nation" the outcry would be immense as well.

This is completely mild by comparison if this had happened to the Cubs instead of the Angels.

I agree that i would be mad and im not saying people here shouldnt be complaining, all i was saying was that I didnt see anything arrogant or cocky out of celebrating a victory. Every team would have celebrated winning a playoff game even if it was on a bad call. Thats all i was saying is that they won the game and have the right to celeberate and nonone said or did anything cocky.

as soon as the game was over, AJ was interviewed and he said he thought the ball hit the ground.

I say he had no clue. his first move was to the dugout, then he turned around and ran to first.

Evidently the umpires will yell "No catch" if they don't think the catcher caught the ball clearly, whereupon the catcher will tag the runner. Evidently Josh Paul says Eddings didn't say "no catch". Probably should have tagged the AJP anyways but still....

At least Scioscia was classy about it. He blamed his team for losing.

Compare this to Dusty's reaction to the Bartman incident, which had 400% less to do with the outcome then this play did.

Dusty basically said: %^$& Fan!!

Scioscia said: Blame our team for losing.

Im guessing the vast majority of the fans did not know it was such a horrible call (except for the ones I text messaged :D ). The whitesox players probably had a better idea but still most of them took the "better lucky than good" approach after the game and they did take advantage of the situation ala marlins in 2003.

From here on out, Benji Molina and Josh Paul should tag every batter after every strike three. No exceptions.

I agree.

There's something arrogant about everything Aj Pierzynski does.

Okay, this would kinda be unprecedented, but could they overturn the call at this point? The nature and time of the call(ending the inning) make me think that it wouldn't be unfair to do so. Especially when it's something as cut and dry as "The umpire made the 'out' sign, that means he's out".

There is precedent for a replay. The George Brett pine tar game was replayed after appeal.

That wasn't a playoff game, though.

This decision will stand.

What happened? :?

Since it doesn't look like anyone wants to answer:

Strike 3, low pitch, but it didn't hit the ground. The ump calls him out. molina rolls the ball to the mound. Perz. takes off to first. With the pitcher already halfway to the dugout, there's no one who can stop him. He's magically safe at 1st

AJ is a liar then. You are correct his first move was to the dugout. He is a classless person - this is known around baseball, just ask the SF pitching staff from last year. Apparently he has as much honesty as he does good looks. Zero.

It was John Paul, the 3rd stringer catcher btw. Not Molina.

I agree.

AND they should do it in an overly exaggerated, histrionic manner, and follow it with a glare at the ump. Cause I would laugh out loud every time they did it.

After hearing his rambling, incoherent explanation of this play on ESPNews, I can find no reason why harold Reynolds should not be tarred and feathered.

Wait, Kruk just one-upped him.

now they're laughing at each other.

Someone shoot me.
