Come to think of it, maybe this should go in the minor league section...was just excited after reading several things about him.

He's going nowhere.

He did hit 4 HRs today in the AFL. In one game.

Didn't say it was reasonable. Just said I want him....really badly.

His numbers this year were sick:

.321, 53 2B, 43 HR, 116 RBI, in 134 games (130 at high-A, 4 at AAA)

His minor league numbers in 2003 were OK, but nothing to write home about. His stats weren't impressive at all in 2004.

Would like to see him walk a little more, but other than that, his numbers this season were eye-popping. And he hasn't slowed down a bit in the fall league.

Anyone know how good he is with the glove? Just curious if he will remain at SS, or if people think he is destined for a position change. If he's going to stay at SS, I bet the Angels wish that Cabrera contract was about two years shorter.

He should stay at SS, he can hold his own. The one time I saw him, I was impressed with his range. He definitely needs better plate discipline. He was robbed of the BA Minor League Player of the Year.

IIRC, he was actually drafted as a somewhat light-bat, good defense SS.

I knew they had a good farm system, but I didn't realize just how good. I notice they have a second baseman named Howie Kendrick that looks like a very good hitter, as well. The Angels could be getting strong production from their middle infield very soon.

Then the kid worked his tail off to improve his hitting or the Angels have some great coaching in the minors...or both. It's reasonable to expect him to improve as he matures, but his numbers took a huge jump. I would imagine he's destined for AA next season, but if he continues to hit like this, he probably won't be there for too long.

within two years we will see McPherson, Wood, and Kendrick at 3rd, SS, and 2nd. I wonder were all that money saved will go. Angels will be very good for the next 5 years.

hahaha, they are not fair at all. Are they planning on Morales in left field? They could seriously spend 60 million a year on pitching for 3 or 4 years.

I was actually just talking with O_O the other day about this. The Angels system is so ridiculous. They had the most players on the BA top 20 lists (20). The Cubs came in 5th with 16 btw. But what is so impressive about this is the quality of these players. They weren't just coming in the bottom half of the top 20 lists. In the PCL they had the numbers 6, 10, and 17 players. In the Texas League they had the numbers 1, 2, 7, 15, and 16 prospects. In the California league they had numbers 1 prospect (Howie Kendrick was 3 in the league but he was also number 1 in the Texas league). Their lower end of the system isn't as impressive but they still have a some players in the top 10s in each leauge.

How many impact minor leaguers does a team need per year? To me depth is nice but I want guys that will be impact players not just fillers like the Cubs seem to bring up. I'll take a Pujols every 3 years over the mediocre postion players the Cubs bring up.

I had gotten the impression that since he hit for power his senior year, he was considered a much better hitting prospect and no longer just a good defense-kid.

Looking at that 2003 first round, that was an impressive draft (link).

Wood isn't the only Angels SS prospect in the farm. Eric Aybar is a good looking SS prospect too and was the reason Brandon Wood didn't get promoted to AA this past season. And don't forget they have Jered Weaver.

IMB, if both Kotchman and Morales are on the same team, I expect Morales will play LF.

Well, Jeff Allison was the biggest bust there.

Harvey's way behind even the other high schoolers on that list, though.

You don't think Allison has a chance to battle back?

Harvey is definitely way behind. :(

I'm curious if he would be that far beind if he were in another organization.
