After this year, I'd be thrilled if we were guaranteed three OF who put up .280/.340/.430ish.

That just shows you how bad our OF was in 2005. We have so much power in the infield that all we would have needed was the above everyone in the OF, and we'd have been the WC.

Going back to the proposed trade...if we're getting Livan Hernandez, I'd imagine Williams would be part of that deal, since he'd not be needed. So you could offer:

Williams

Nolasco

Patterson

Dopirak

How would everyone feel about that?

Goony,

What is it that you don't like out of Wilkerson's offensive production in CF? His OBP's for the past four years are: .370, .380, .374, .351. This year he supposedly played injured, which lowered his numbers across the board.

I wouldn't call him a stud, but I'm not sure why you'd expect him to put up a .340 OBP, either.

The .340 was Murton. What I meant to say about Wilkerson is you might not get much better than that from him. I wouldn't pencil him in for a near 900 OPS. Things have been down in recent years, and while I love the patience and walk totals, I don't trust a guy who relies so heavily on the walk, while playing for Dusty.

Make no mistake, I'd love to have him in center and leading off, moreso than Furcal actually. I was just talking about total OF production, and making a point that an OF of Murton/Wilkerson/???RF??? better have a very production RF in it. Murton/Wilkerson/Burnitz wouldn't cut it.

I have very little faith in 3 of the 4, and am not all that high on the 4th, so I'd love it.

Good, if they threw in Majewski or something.

Do you really think the Nationals, trying to establish themselves in that market, are going to trade their most popular player?

Why is that? I'd say it's a fairly equal trade, as the Nats are getting one #3, one potential #4, Patterson to play CF in that gigantic park, and a 1B prospect. We're getting a fairly expensive #3 and a CF. It's a fair trade.

I thought Jose Vidro is their most popular player.

I always assumed Livan was the face of that franchise. At least that's the 1st player that comes to mind for me when people talk about the Nationals. I could be wrong though.

I agree. The Cubs would need a 30HR type guy out there even if they resign Nomar and Walker. If the Cubs go the Furcal + Cedeno route they will need a banger in RF bigtime.

Jerome Williams + Todd Walker for Cliff Floyd?

Which one of those two is supposed to be their most popular?

Livan.

I'll happily take John Patterson, instead!

I remember earlier in the year somebody claiming that Wilkerson was the face of the franchise and they'd never trade him. I doubt that.

As for Livan, pitchers aren't normally the face of a franchise, considering they don't play everyday. It's hard to market a team and try to sell tickets based off a guy who might get 16 home starts. Besides, I think his little outburst about not wanting to pitch there anymore might have hurt his chances of being THE GUY in DC.

If I was the GM, I'd deal Livan. That team needs a serious overhaul. Yeah, they had some success this year, but a .500 record is probably peak performance for them, and I don't see much else happening soon, especially before they get ownership and a new stadium built.

They like Nick Johnson there too. I still think the Nats sign or trade for a big bat this offseason.

Gotcha. I thought you were inferring that Wilkerson would be around those numbers, as well.

While I wouldn't expect a .900 OPS out of him, I would expect something around .850 if he's healthy. His four OPS numbers are: .839, .844, .872, .756. The last was accumulated, again, while playing injured in a dreadful home environment (yes, I also know his road numbers were worse this year -- I consider that an anomoly).

Hey, my offseason priorities still begin and end with paying Giles enough money to leave the west coast. If we had Murton, Wilky and Giles across the OF, I'd be okay with going with defense in the MIF and signing Furcal & playing Cedeno at 2B.

Of course you would! But, it's hard to see even them dealing a guy with just 2 years of ML service and making $400K. Then again, Jim Bowden did sign Christian Guzman for 4 years and $17M, so anything is possible!

They're a dark horse in the Nomar sweepstakes, imo. A big name signing like Nomar would be right up Bowden's alley, even if Nomar might not be able to play a full season at SS. However, considering they have a hole to fill in LF, that might be a possibility.

They're also going to have to figure out what to do with Castilla and Zimmerman (who hit close to .400 in 20 games this season). Castilla's numbers were not all that great this season and he turns 39 next season. Moving him to LF would be ludicrous at his offensive production, but trading him could be out of the question due to his contract.

Should be fun times, imo.

I'm going on record saying Jim Bowden will do Cub Nation a favor and sign Neifi Perez to a 2 yr contract.

Competition for Guzman? I don't think Neifi is looking for a utility or platoon situation.

Quite a battle there, salary advantage-Guzman and the production advantage goes to Neifi.

If I was Washington and that was the battle at starting SS, I'd want a 3rd option.

That's why they moved Zimmerman to SS.

Did you see some of the comments made about 2B Howie Kendrick of Anaheim?

Aybar, Cabrera, Wood, Callespo, Kennedy and Kendrick...

Quite a surplus of MIs.
