Should this be in "Transactions?"

Trib reports Larry might be headed to Detroit to be reunite their 1997 World Series coaching staff.

I'm fine with it; I actually am pretty unimpressed with Rothschild.

What about Mike Maddux? I'm sure he is under contract with Milwaukee but from what I have read he has really gotten a lot out of his pitchers up North.

We would probably have the upper-hand in recruiting him if he were a FA.

I believe he was resigned or extended on Monday.

i can't see any reason the brewers wouldn't attempt to keep him. he's done a great job up there.

if rothschild leaves and dick pole becomes the pitching coach just like dusty intended in '03, we will be hurting.

Looks like maddux is on a contract that takes him through the end of next year. Apparently so is Rothschild since Hendry said he hasn't been asked to grant permission to talk to Larry. So I guess we could ask to talk to Maddux. But like you said, I can't see the Brewers granting that permission.

Does anyone have any stats on how Kranitz teams have done pitching-wise in the past?

All indications are that Kranitz would be promoted. I'm not sure whether that's a good idea or not.

Is Verne Ruhle still available?

Ruhle will be back w/Cincy.

After Tom House (he ain't going anywhere), I'd interview Wayne Rosenthal or Bryan Price.

But, if Kranitz is the only one interviewed, I'll be disappointed for the reasoning that extends to not looking at all the avail. options.

If the Cubs are high on Kranitz at this stage, that wouldn't change if they interviewed other options.

Kranitz was the leading candidate after Acosta resigned, they went with Marty instead.

Couldn't you argue that Kranitz is responsible for not developing Mitre, Welly, Leicester, Koronka, etc. to their fullest abilities?

Isn't Dick Pole supposed to be one of the best pitching coaches out there?? (so of course the cubs use him as bench coach)
Posted

I think Koronka is developed to his fullest abilities, which is a #3 starter for a AAA team.

The argument is there, hard to tell from here whether his coaching is the reason behind that or the players themselves.

For info. surrounding Bryan Price... Best analysis you'll find...

The promotion the Cubs desperately need to make is to bring up Von Joshua and make him the Cubs hitting coach, and unceremoniously show Sarge and Gene Clines the door. Joshua has done a brilliant job with kids like Pie, Murton, Sing, Theriot et al, and the players love him.

Dick Pole is a worthless cesspool of human waste, of what purpose is a "bench coach" anyway? Isn't he basically just a paper chaser for the manager?

If you do get rid of Sarge, the 1B coach is the easiest job around. Shawon Dunston seems to hang around big league clubhouses a lot, he must need the work. I'd bring him in.

Is the name calling really necessary? What has the man done to you?

What has he donw period? Maybe you don't respect the (underrated, IMO) roled of bench coach, but that was a personal attack. And, jokingly said or not, there's no call for it.

I think that's a pretty good point. If we all feel alright in blaming Rothschild for not advancing (or even mantaining) levels of success for Prior, Z and Wood, then it's probably worth considering that Kranitz has done the same for our AAAA guys. Although other variables like potential and ML-readiness of these guys is important to consider, too.

And he deserves it: he coaxed good seasons out guys named Ohka, Turnbow and Doug Davis.

Wow. Lighten up. Since I know he's reading this, I apologize to Dick Pole.

How 'bout Vince Coleman instead? He could work with the guys on their running all season long and, in individual games, could watch the opponent's pitcher from the first base box and give the team a heads-up on his motion, etc.

And Vince also could throw some firecrackers at the fans if they get out of hand as well.

I never thought to have a former player that was a good basestealer as a 1st base coach. That's a great idea.

How about Rickey then? :D
