I never thought to have a former player that was a good basestealer as a 1st base coach. That's a great idea.

How about Rickey then? :D

Player/ Coach?

With Dusty's love of the aged, he'd start over Murton.

It also says the Cubs are optimistic that Larry will return. I don't see why he'd leave the Cubs for a team like Detroit, even if his buddy Leyland is there.

Unless the word "optimistic" has some weird definition I'm completely unaware of, that sentance pretty much has me ready to give up on 2006.

On ESPN Radio they mentioned that the tigers have extended a mulit-year offer to Rothschild and also mentioned something along the lines that the Cubs will not be offering more than 1 year. Sounds like he is a goner to me.

Tigers, Rothschild talk: Friday was the second full day since the Tigers received permission to talk to Larry Rothschild about leaving his secure job as Cubs' pitching coach to become the Tigers' pitching coach. "We really have no answers on how it will turn out," Leyland said. "We probably will not pick a pitching coach for a while yet. We have some other names on the list."

Leyland reiterated that he will take as much time as necessary to find the right pitching coach. Rothschild was Leyland's pitching coach on the 1997 world-champion Marlins.

If they do decide on Rothschild, I hope the Cubs do a couple of things 1st...

1)Look at as many candidates as possible.

2)Have Hendry in charge of the hire.
