Well, I figured it was time to debate another post-season award, so who's your AL Cy Young candidate.

While in the NL, it's pretty much down to Clemens and Carpenter as the prime candidates, the AL Cy Young isn't so narrowed down.

I think the prime guys (among starters) are Halladay, Santana, Colon, and Garland. Buherle might get some consideration as well. I'm sure there are others, and you can feel free to state the case for them as well. Some would argue for Rivera as the Cy Young winner, but I'm very hesitant to consider closers for the award.

Here are some comparisons:

ERA

Halladay 2.41

Santana 3.07

Colon 3.24

Garland 3.28

Wins

Halladay 12

Santana 13

Colon 18

Garland 17

Losses

Halladay 4

Santana 6

Colon 6

Garland 8

BAA

Halladay .225

Santana .212

Colon .248

Garland .255

QS%

Halladay 74

Santana 71

Colon 68

Garland 70

K/9

Halladay 6.86

Santana 9.38

Colon 6.24

Garland 4.47

As I look at the numbers, I can eliminate Garland fairly easily. He started off well, especially in the win category for those that value it, but his numbers are easily the worst of the bunch.

Santana and Halladay are my one and two. At first glance, I'd likely go with Halladay, but considering the amount of time he's missed, if I were voting, I'd have to cast it for Santana.

You could make a case that Colon has been the most valuable to his team, but the Cy should go to whoever has literally pitched the best, so I have to agree. I think it's a little different than just "the MVP of pitchers", so I'm inclined to believe that one can be difficient in stats they have less control over (e.g. wins) and still come home with the Cy. If they are tops in wins by far and boast top rankings in the other stats as well, they might as well be the MVP, imo.

All of that being said, Santana, then Halladay.

AL Cy Young

Santana - Colon

NL Cy Young

Carpenter - Willis

I can't see Clemens being any closer then 3rd w/ such a low win total, especially if Carpenter wins 24-5 games.

I really doubt Halladay gets any consideration. He has been hurt for a while and out for the season.

we were asked who we think should win, not who we think will.

OK, smart ass the guy has been out half a year yet people think he should win? No way.

Colon will win in the AL.

Clemens will win. He deserves it. He's better than last year when he won it.

Really? He's at 11-6 so far. I understand he's got a sick ERA at 1.57, but it's not like Carpenter's 2.28 is a bust.

Carpenter has pitched more innings (213 to 189), he has more K's (191 to 169), and he's walked fewer batters (44 to 51). Plus Carpenter has 20 wins vs Clemens 11.

There's a possibility Carpenter could win 25, or 26 games. If he maintains that kind of stuff, he'll win it hands down.

Clemens won't even come in second................Willis will with his 194.1 IP, 19-8 record, 134/43 K/W, and a 2.55 ERA to boot.

I agree Clemens team has screwed him over a few too many times this year, but the wins will kill him.

Vance,

Colon leads in wins, and since Clemens won the NL Cy Young last year the way he did, it's only fair that Colon should win the AL Cy Young this season.

I am an Angels fan, but unbiased, however I do want my guy to win. :?
