I agree with the recent sentiment. A bag of warm urine in exchange for holly is still a great deal. Actual players are even more of a bonus.

Wow, what a thread. Hendry actually manages to get not one but two still breathing human beings in exchange for Todd Hollandsworth and much of the reaction in this thread is filled with venom.

I don't feel venomous at all when I think of this move, but I do think the guys we got aren't worth wasting bandwith to analyze their "talents". The Braves know their business, and these guys were practically given away. If they ever make it to the majors this will be a fleecing of the highest order.

Maybe you should just make a list of the things you feel are worthy of posting about so everyone else here does not waste bandwidth with the things they are interested in but do not meet your standards. My guess is that the list would be something like this:

1) Dusty sucks - fire him

2) Macias sucks - DFA him

3) Neifi sucks - DFA him

4) Hendry is an idiot

We all know that never in the history of MLB has a team traded away low level prospects at the deadline for a veteran and had those prospects turn into anything useful.

I would have been happy to get a broken-down pitching machine for Hollandsworth, so the fact that we actually received two human beings capable of playing baseball somewhere marks this down as a decent trade. It also means there's one less obstacle to Murton playing beginning September 1. (We still need to get rid of Burnitz to make it a certainty, but I'm holding out hope that Hendry is working on that one too.)

Anyone know if Nomar cleared? If he is not in the Cubs' future plans and since Neifi did not clear, then Nomar should go either via trade or DFAing to give guys like Cedeno and McClain playing time.

I wish Holla well. I also think that Perez is a nice bench guy and if Baker simply used him as such we would have no problems so I do not blame Perez for what Baker has done.

All this means is more Hairston in LF (or Macias).

I don't count on Murton getting any more PT because of this. Baker would stick Nomar out in LF 4 days a week if it meant keeping veterans in the lineup.

I wonder what kind of haul the Cubs could get for Nomar? Would Nomar still be considered a Type A free agent if the Cubs do offer him arb? I don't the Cubs would but I was wondering.

btw, I fully expect Todd Hollandsworth to go on a "Carlos Beltran-esque" hitting frenzy through September and October.

If he can do something to hurt the cards in the playoffs I'm all for it!

Perez is a very good utility IF. He was not used properly this year by Dusty, however, Nomar's injury wasn't planned either. I just don't understand what most people expect from a back-up SS around here, b/c the hate for Neifi here is completely unwaranted. He gives 100% all the time & has done very well since he has put on a Cubs uniform. I am fine with Neifi coming back next year as long as he is a back-up SS or utility IF.

Getting P prospects from the Braves is like getting used gum from someone.

That said, Hooray Holla is gone. Hooray there's room to add Van Buren onto the 40 man. No excuse now for Murton not to play 5 times a week.

Which is more humorous; the lack of production out of left field this year or the fact that we were able to trade 4 left fielders this year (mainly to contenders)?

Haha, I hadn't even noticed that. That's just odd.

It may mean that not just Hendry sees some value in these guys....not as starters but as value to a team.

I agree with both of you. I have never understood the anti-Nefi stuff that goes on here. Its not Nefi's fault that Nomar has been made of glass since he got hee. Its not Nefi's fault that Dusty is stubborn and insistent on misusing the majority of his roster.

Guys like Nefi and Holly have given their best efforts without complaint. They may not be as good as we'd like, but if you want to blame someone for that, blame the guys that put us in a position where we have to rely on them every day.

Most of the anti-Neifi stuff has been out of sheer frustration at seeing him in the lineup everyday. Not his fault, but people will vent in any way possible sometimes, including myself.

Having said that, Baker has really gotten the brunt of my frustration most of the time, and deservedly so.

I like this trade obviously b/c the Cubs gave nothing up as well as hopefully getting some ABs for Murton, but I like the potential of Blackford. Hopefully, he has the makeup that allowed Lerew to develop from a thrower with a strong arm to a pitcher with a strong arm. So far, I have no complaints about the arms the Cubs have rec'd lately. As far as Burrows, that should be interesting, Marmol is the most obvious example of when that works out for the Cubs. But, Burrows is a smaller guy with a big arm, hopefully he can show he can spin a breaking ball.
