You could wake up tomarrow morning and see that Hendry got fired, and Baker was made GM and manager.

Haha, you don't realize the horror that would be Gary Hughes as our GM, which is the likely candidate if Hendry is canned. He'd put Bowden to shame.

Or you could be a Royals fan.

Now THAT would suck

I dunno. Kaufmann stadium is pretty nice and the water falls are relaxing. Also, at least you know you're going to lose and not choke brilliantly.

ALAN SCHWARZ: OK, so it's the trading deadline, and you want to evaluate another team's Double-A right-field prospect. Everyone agrees that he has considerable skills, and you're going to scout him for three games. How will you evaluate what kind of asset he might be for your big league club a few years from now?

GARY HUGHES: You'll have a history coming in, but you'll evaluate his five tools. You'll compare what you have on your own club. You'll think about what your immediate needs are and what your long-term needs are. And you'll make your decision based on your feeling.

You know what sucks? Living in Kansas and being a Cubs fan. The worst of both worlds.

You honestly think that if Hendry was canned, MacPhail who has no history with Hughes would hire one of Hendry's "guys" or vice versa since Hughes has had an influence on Hendry?

I think Andy would look outside the organization on this one.

We can only hope.

If Hendry were sent packing, I could see Andy taking over for a spell again. Remember, he relinquished the reins, in part, because he was involved in the labor talks.

Wow. That kind of view on baseball is older than I am, so God knows how far back it would set the ballclub.

Now, Voros McCracken - might be time to hire a sabr fellow, if not for GM, at least with sabr ideas that a GM will listen to. Voros started as a bored paralegal in Chitown. Could he be pried from the Red Sox... ?

Yeah, and he did SUCH a good job too. IMO MacPhail contributed a good chunk to the creation of the media craver who is/was Sammy Sosa.

Oh. My. God.

Besides the insanely prehistoric baseball philosophy, he comes off like a close-minded, arrogant half-wit.

I had never read that before; Hughes as our GM would be a horrifying disaster. Wow. I hardly know what to say.

I think the five tools are five physical tools. I don’t see where plate discipline becomes a tool.
