Right, so it should just be accepted and tolerated?

Such constant exaggeration and "sky is falling" types of behavior with no accountability for such statements is clearly one of the unfortunate aspects of a message board.

You are going to waste a whole lot of time trying to police hyperbole around here. Just to ignore it, or at least take it with a grain of salt.

No way the Reds trade Dunn to the Cardinals. Even if the Cards ponied up enough to make it worth it they'd have to see that as conceding the division for the next 5 years.

They'd be stupid to trade him within the division.

Macias was a scratch?

Rotoworld said yesterday that the Cubs were going to rest Aramis' sore quad the rest of the weekend.

If the Reds are currently shopping Dunn, Kearns, Griffey, Casey and already traded Randa, aren't they basically conceding the division for the next 5 years anyway?

Whether the Reds want to reconcile with it or not, they need to rebuild that team from the ground up. The problem is, I think their front office may thing that by hanging on to Dunn, Kearns, Griffey, etc., they have a shot at contending in the next couple of seasons. Of course, they do not.

And you believed Ramirez over Rotoworld?

Milwaukee is currently a year or two ahead of them. Houston is probably going to slip a bit. St. Louis always finds a way to be competitive and the Cubs have money to spend, good talent and a strong farm system. If I were the Reds, I'd be doing what Tampa Bay is doing and what Pittsburgh did. Stock up on the kids. Cincy's current starting rotation isn't going to take them anywhere. Their offense is one of the best in baseball, and where has it gotten them?

Reyes and Wainright [sic] are still more than enough to get that deal done.

Wainwright is awful.

Awful? A little loose with the hyperbole aren't we?

4.17 ERA in the PCL is far from "awful".

True, but it's far from top notch too.

I think the difference is that Wainwright was a first round pick and the expectations at the major league level are higher.

Well I know the Braves had serious doubts about his ability to make it to and succeed at the ML level, and that contributed to their willingness to trade him. And the Braves rarely make bad decisions when it comes to young pitching.

Achoo! Juan Cruz. Achoo!

You're right though.

What's your point? I think Juan and his 2.75 ERA last year worked out pretty well for the Braves.

Well, the Red Sox just traded Shoppach to Colorado for Larry Bigbie.

Well cancel out Shoppach and add Bigbie. Do they even have a place for him to play? I'd guess this definitely means Huff is gone for sure now.

Bigbie's gonna be getting some sweet frequent flier miles this weekend.

Whose reporting this by the way?

Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus. He says its Bigbie for Adam Stern and Shoppach.

He was going off a newspaper report that said it wasn't final though.

His article (which is premium content on BP) includes no such disclaimer and describes the deal in the past tense.

Doesn't make it true.

Wellemeyer is generally considered garbage and he has a 3.16 ERA in the same league, with much better peripheral numbers as well.

Generally considered garbage? By who, people in baseball or people on this board? I'm just curious who considers him garbage.

OK, that was exaggeration (!), but I don't know why Wainwright is considered so valuable and Wellemeyer is considered to be a throw-in type guy in the trades we dream up.

I would never trade Wellemeyer for Wainwright. I would trade Mitre before I traded Wellemeyer.

No problem, I think I would trade Mitre also, he does have value for a team.

I think Welly is a very good prospect. I think Hendry values him more than most casual fans. He's spoken very highly of Welly and his potential. Welly seems to be starting to put it together in Iowa.

i seriously doubt they would give him another day off this week unless something is happening.

Manny Ramirez - OF - Red Sox

Manny Ramirez was pulled from the Boston lineup about 10 minutes before gametime tonight.

Did he ask out because of the trade talk or is something getting done? We'll probably know something soon. Jul. 30 - 6:58 pm et

Thanks Penguin -- its more for the sanity of the forum than for me though -- it would get nuts if new threads were created with every update we're getting as the deadline approaches.
