I wish the fan had kept the ball. Throwing balls back is one of the stupidest traditions in baseball.

 

Not at Wrigley it isn't. Not at most ball parks in fact.

 

I don't care where it is. If a fan wants to keep a homerun ball the other fans shouldn't try to pressure or threaten him to throw it back.

Consider it payment. You get to watch a game in the greatest ballpark in the world in exchange for having to throw back ~50% of the home run balls hit there.

Just because it has gone on for a long time doesn't make it acceptable behavior.

define tradition. I don't think the Bleacher Bums have been doing that more than 10-12 years now.

They probably haven't been drinking heavily in the outfield for more than the last few years either.

They have. I remember them throwing HR balls back in 89.

who cares what other people in Wrigley say/think? if you want the ball, keep it. if you want to throw it back in the spirit of Wrigley, go for it. that man made the decision...he certainly looks old enough to be accountable for his own actions/emotions.
