I love Rich Hill, but, really, hasnt Mitre earned the right to get all spot-starts. He has been down right dominating in some starts (..and not in some others) while Hill really hasnt proved at anything at this level. Mitre is not a relief pitcher at all. Just send him and Cedeno down to Iowa until next year when we have a new manager and adjusted roster.

IMHO, Mitre=Jeremi Gonzalez

And can you truly express whether Hill has proven anything or not with a grand total of 5 2/3 IP in his career?

How about Matt Murton getting a start in your so-called LF platoon Dusty.....

It's not really a "so-called LF platoon."

It's the definition of a LF platoon. Murton plays against lefties and Hollandsworth plays against righties. I don't agree with it, but Dusty is right when he says it's a platoon.

Well, a fact is a fact. Hes still not proven at the major level. Whether he has had a chance isnt the point. If we are trying to win this year, we shouldnt be audiontioning Hill. Just pitch Mitre. Also, look at the number of homeruns he has given up at every single level hes pitched at. Do you really want that at wrigley field?

by your reasoning, how is he ever going to get 'proven' at the major league level? in fact, how did mitre become proven? there will always be a guy w/ more experience than a rookie...how's he ever supposed to get out there if he is continually passed up for whoever has more innings than him?

and i don't know why everyone is so awestruck by what mitre has done. look at his numbers...it's not like they're passing up a dominant pitcher in favor of one that sucks. if mitre's better, the difference is minimal. and i think most people would agree that hill has a higher ceiling.

w/ regard to alou...hill better throw him hooks all night. don't even try to sneak that cutter in on him, because if he doesn't get it in far enough, it's going onto the street.

from watching hill's last AAA start, it was evident that if he can't throw his curve for strikes, the opposition just sits on his fb. since he knew his hook wasn't working, he went to the cutter occasionally, but he wasn't getting it far enough in on righties...and they hit him hard. so, for me, it all starts w/ whether he can get his curve over...or at least make it look like it's going to be a strike so he can get some swings off it.

go rich!

how big a boost could Rich Hill be for this team? I have been hoping for a while he would get his chance to show his stuff, and today is the day. Cant wait to see what he brings

Maybe so, but I don't understand the reasoning considering Hollandsworth's numbers vs. Lefties and Righties are remarkably similar.

Dusty doesn't go by the numbers, he goes by the hand you throw/hit with.

Completely shutting down a Brewers team for 4.1 innings I think earned him a chance to prove himself. By the way the Brewers team that he shut down, was the same one that had just finished smacking around our ace.

The Cubs are also 5-5 in games at Wrigley Field in which I've been in attendance. I have a current 5-game losing streak. I hope to turn things around on Wednesday, watching Z mow down the Giants..... (hopefully).

That's some serious foresight to know the starters in September.

If the Cubs don't take 5/7 from these Giants I will be disappointed.

Its not like Mitre is some old fart that Dusty would toss out there. Hes approx. the same age as Hill. Remember, Hill wasnt much of a prospect till recently. Im just saying that if you have the go up at the major league level already, might as well use him they way he is supposed to be used.

Hill as a prospect has always had a much higher ceiling than almost all of the pitching prospects in the Cubs' system. He had pretty much fully developed with regards to his body and mound presence and his fastball had pretty much topped out. Everyone knew that curveball was the filthiest pitch ni the system; it was just a matter of if he could ever control is properly. He also needed a third pitch, which has come along decently to my understanding.

Last season, it seemed as if he had finally broken through to start the season, stringing together some good starts before fatigue and hurricanes cut him short down in Daytona. He just needed to make the right mechanical adjustment in order to consistently throw that curve for strikes and not make the backstop quiver in fear in the process.

His ceiling is much better than Mitre and he'd give the Cubs a much-needed left handed starter for the foreseeable future if he comes through. A good start might also vault his trade value and help the Cubs acquire a much-needed bat in the OF.

This move makes sense to me, imo. Mitre should be down in AAA starting, not rotting in the BP. But, when it comes to personal preference, Hill should get the nod over Mitre for this one.

Hey all, just a reminder: keep it clean and keep it civil. Last night got out of hand, and it really wasn't acceptible. We will not let it slide tonight. That is all.

Standard lineup given the past few days. I'm still royally annoyed that Burnitz is batting 4th and not Ramirez, but whatever.

What was that you were saying about days off with the heat, Jon?

No left handers. Not good news.

Something about them not getting days off until they're hospitalized for heat stroke.

It's cooler today in Chicago than was expected. The heat index won't even be in the 90s come gametime.

What is that third pitch that he throws?
