Cubs real close to getting Dunn (Shot down by Bruce Miles)

Sorry but he didn't go into any in-depth details about this deal, but it's interesting to note that about a week ago he told me the Reds proposed a deal involving Dunn to the Astros for Jason Lane and Brandon Backe that the Astros turned down, so apparently the Reds at least wanted an ML-ready OF if they were going to deal away Dunn.

 

Either this guy is good and is feeding stuff from our own board, OR he could be very right. Isn't this the same deal Vance spoke from his Astros source OML

 

Toss in Troy Patton and you got that exact deal.

Okay, color me hopeful but cynical here, so I apologize if I come off as a bit of a jerk. I'm just wondering about a few things.

 

Did you and your friend discuss this trade in-depth at all or did he just tell you the terms of the deal and leave it at that? Did he say why the Reds were interested specifically in those two pitchers and Patterson? Did he say that cash or other prospects might change hands?

 

Do you post on any other message boards, out of curiosity? If you do, what's your screen name on those boards?

 

Finally, what's the motivation for the Reds to deal Dunn to the Cubs for this package? Did the negotiations between them and other teams fall apart (like with Houston), or were they not contacted? Also, why did they trade their best young hitter to a division rival?

 

I like to have reasons and everything, as you may understand. You may say you're not a troll...but unfortunately, on the Internet, one can never be sure with a new poster.

I posted on ESPN under the name nolimits3 for a short time, but I mostly just lurked.

 

It might just be me (or maybe not), but it seems to me that you're just getting this info based on what vance's source told us, which we've discussed at length on here.

 

Still...if this is true, it'll make my year. Hendry would once again have pulled a big deadline deal for us. Adam Dunn in LF for this team... :shock:

That's alright, I know it sounds fishy since I'm a new poster and everything, but again, I wouldn't make stuff like this up.

And if this trade goes down, poor Rich Hill (and his HR rate).

 

Because his walk rate that hes shown in all but the last 26.2 innings still scares the bejesus out of me. I would like to sign him as a set up man, and am loving what he is doing right now, but I'm leary of his sustainability. Although I think his saves/chances stat is going to command him decent money on the market (for less than a year's worth of experience) which is why I think Ryan will also be the better value. Spending 10M on the entire outfield should leave us financially sound to spend the extra money on Ryan.

Even if the trade doesn't go down it doesn't necessarily mean the poster made it up. We know from the Bruce Levine fiasco earlier this year that trades can be reported by reputable sources and still not get finalized. Perhaps one of the teams backs out at the last minute, or perhaps the poster's source got bad information. One false report (if in fact it does turn out to be false) shouldn't be grounds for banning somebody. If he repeatedly makes false reports (as opposed to one time) that would be different.

See, I have a couple problems with this... I'm not sure we should have Nomar that high up until he proves he can be productive... Also, it would potentially mean less AB's for Lee, which is never a good thing. Plus, Barrett does much better outside of the 8-hole.. Seems he loses any concept of patience when he's down there..
