Whats wrong with nefi?

As of late, he has been hitting into a lot of potential double plays, and has been less agressive fielding and basebrunning. Do you think hes feeling pressure with the return of Nomar and the rookie Cedeno breathing down his neck?

He was on this team as a backup for nomar, and to start when he got an everyday job he was doing great, but what could be wrong with him?

Also *i know this should be in the transaction post but i have already made this post* could nefi be hearing rumors about being traded as another possible reason for his decline?

Nothing is wrong with him. His numbers are in line with his career averages. During the course of his career, he's been a terrible hitter. One of the worst in baseball.

The main problem is that he is Neifi Perez. Despite brief spurts of great play, he's just not that good of a major league baseball player.

Beat me to it...

Who would want Neifi?? If we can find ANYONE to give ANYTHING for Neifi I'd be shocked. So I doubt he is hearing trade rumors that are causing his play. I think the cause of his poor play is that he has reverted to form (like others have said) and that form stinks.

1. He stinks.

2. Dusty is stupid.

LOL!

I know some posters may get torqued off with calling Dusty stupid, but the simplicity of this post still made me laugh harder than I should have.

I heard a rumor that when Dusty get's canned, Neifi is going to be handed the managerial duties  Maybe his mind is on that (hehe)

well yes, he isnt that good, but hasnt he been dropping?

As in, from where he was at the beginning of the year, untill now.

But yes, I know hes nothing compared to what nomar should, could, and will be when he returns.

He started out unbelievably hot, putting up numbers that not only exceeded expecations for him, but exceeded most expectations for even Nomar. But it was unsustainable. A guy who has been that bad for that long doesn't get that good over night. He has been dropping, and that was to be expected. Nobody could have thought he was going to put up a 900 OPS for the season.

As Goony has basically already pointed out, Neifi is Neifi, not Rod Carew. His hot start this season should not have been expected to be maintained over the course of a full season.

He's merely playing like his career averages now, which kind of explains why he was originally signed to be Nomar's back up.

I will admit that I was thrilled to get what we got from Neifi in Nomar's absence. Unfortunately, Dusty felt he should be batting at the top of the order as he progressed back to career levels, which meant suffering a terrible regression to get back to those norms.

The entire team ended up suffering as Dusty didn't quickly enough make the adjustment of putting Neifi at the bottom of the order where he always belonged.

I don't know what Nefi's problem is, but I do know that Neifi has a lot of problems!

Neifi is terrible. One of the worst hitters in the last 50 years, and Dusty keeps thinking he's the best thing since sliced bread.

The saddest thing? Intelligent Cub fans think that we'll go places under Dusty's leadership.

Yeah, but I like to think that the line of reasoning is much like the saying that if you give a monkey a typewriter and an infinite amount of time, he'll eventually write the works of Shakespeare.

And Cedeno is supposed to watch and emulate him.

:shudder:

Neifi is what he is. He always seems to run hot or cold, never anything in between. You might as well hope that he's starting another one of his hot streaks, because the only thing that's certain is that Dusty is gonna play him until Nomar gets back.

Haha, I saw Fred was the last post in this thread, and I knew this exact breakdown of stats would be there. I think it's pretty telling that despite an 83 AB stint of a .973 OPS, he hasn't had a month above a .650 OPS since April. He needs to get out of the starting lineup, and quickly.

Posted

You ever notice how everytime the catcher or the manager goes to the mound to visit with a pitcher, Neifi pops in on the conversation? I think he figures that as his average continues to drop (hitting .250 since April) that he will jump on this "team leader" thing so when someone asks Dusty why Neifi is still in the lineup (after Baker has used the made up on the spot, baserunning, fielding, and hitting the ball harder than anyone excuses) he can say,

"Well man, Neifi is a real asset on the field, he is always talking to our pitchers, man."

On a side note:

I truly believe Neifi is still riding on that time he told Dempster to hit the ball to him earlier in the season, and then it was hit to him and the Cubs turned a double play to end a game. Everyone else that matters has forgotten that play, but I have a feeling Dusty still thinks about it everytime he writes out a lineup card with Neifi's name on it. (Note: He thinks about it twice, when he when he bats Neifi anywhere but 8th).

this is ridiculous, perez was signed as a back up ss and has played quite well. saying he is one of the worse hitters in baseball is a thing of stupidity, compare his stats with some of the other shortstops in baseball and maybe some of you will realize how ridiculous you are. some of you never met a prospect you didn't love. like steve stone said on the score a couple of nites ago. a prospect is just that a prospect or a suspect and you trade prospects any day for a proven player. i read this board a lot and it seems have of the posters are l5 yeearold kids

There's so much I could say in response to this, and yet this post says enough in itself.
