LMAO, the Braves get a 90 year old guy and he turns into Ted Williams, the Cards get a mediocre injury-prone starter named Chris Carpenter and he turns into a Cy Young candidate, and the Cubs sign Greg Maddux who proceeds to turn into Mike Maddux. I love the Cobs.

OK enough is enough. I know you wanted him to get the last out and then pinch hit for him next inning, but he's fallen apart like a cheap suit. Get him out.

At least this team won't try to kill Ron Santo by getting his hopes up and then crushing them. Even a die-hard like him has to know when it's not in the cards.

For those watching the game, how was Prior's stuff? What was the problem in the Fifth?

He pitches for the Cubs...

I am about done with this team. I wonder if I can get a refund on my MLB Extra Innings...

I think Dusty expected the Cubs to get 7 next inning so Prior could get the win

It really doesn't matter. The game was over when the Braves got three. We can be optimistic all we want, but we were only scoring 2 runs with Lee in the lineup, so being down 3, or 6 or 25 it's all the same.

Anyone starting to think 2003 was just a complete fluke? Prior's not that good, Wood's definitely not that good.

I am far from done with this team. Honestly, if we lose enough to lose all hope of the playoffs, thats when the fun begins. We get to see the rookies playing, and there are no expectations to win. Obviously its not the fun of a pennant race, but c'mon a Cubs fan has to be used to still finding a reason to follow them even when they are terrible.

From Rob Neyer's chat (currently on ESPN.com):

Mike (Madison): Cubs losing 6-0 to Braves right now....possible 7 game skid. Are they done? What needs to be done to salvage a postseason run?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (2:29 PM ET ) Insert fork. Remove fork. Begin thinking about 2006. . . Does anybody else get the distinct feeling that if Bobby Cox and Leo Mazzone were running the Cubs instead of the Braves, their records would be reversed? There's certainly no lack of talent on the Cubs' roster.

I have to agree. Dusty is killing us.

okay guys, it has been fun being here (for the most part a reader for a year or so). But I am done for 1 week. I hope to rejoin reading and having fun after the break, but my all-star break starts at 1:37 CDT. Have fun and root for me.

I am officially on a Cub Fast...

Prior is good, even the best fall down sometimes. Wood was better in 2003, injuries and changes in mechanics have led to him failing to reach his lofty expectations.

Fluke? No....but extremely lucky? Yes. Play that season 100 times, we make the playoffs maybe 25 times, we make it to the NLCS 10 times, we play game 7 3 times

2003 was not a fluke...this team and especially last year's team was a lot better then the 03 team on paper. The manager deserves much of the criticism for this season and i really hope Hendry takes notice and cans Baker.

This team really doesn't deserve our support anymore.

I'm a Cubs fan and will support them until the end. But obviously its not easy all the time

I wasn't trying to say Prior's not good. I know he's good. I was just saying maybe he's not as good as what we saw in 2003. After the 2003 season there wasn't 1 person in baseball I would have traded Prior straight up for. Now there are many people I would trade him for. Including several pithcers.
