Phillies are so freaked out they're starting Aaron Nola on two-days rest tonight.

If he is really starting, my guess is he goes 1 inning. Maybe this is his throw day beteeen starts. We saw that with the Marlins. He isn’t going long. But, I agree, things are getting a bit tense in Phillie. Go Dbacks. Make SD have to use King if they want a better chance at home field. Also, sweep SD.

Phillies are regressing, think some here mentioned this as a possibility.  Padres are due for a regression as well.

Seriously, in what universe did Mattingly think going with Urquidy was going to turn out well?  He got away with a hanger, then the Rays cashed in, doesn't look good for the Phillies tonight.

So assuming the Rays dont blow their lead, we're looking at 2 scenarios here:

-Padres win makes the final game completely meaningless and we can rest up players and needed arms

-Padres loss makes playing the series at Wrigley still possible, though maybe a 35% shot as they'll need a win and Padres loss

Either of those scenarios is fine by me.  I'd rather not go to SD, but knowing now can give us a little advantage given the additional off day today.

I really don't like the Diamondbacks nor do I think they're all that good.  Nevertheless, they deserve credit for not packing it in despite their, at one point, microscopic playoff chances.

Their reliever, Cabrera, from a glance at his minor stats and what's coming up on MLB-Gameday, looks to be cut from the same cloth as those guys, Paez and Burgos, the Cubs saw.  Doesn't have much, soft tosser.  After Machado' HR he took it up a notch maybe, he should have started that way.

Yeah, don't understand why they brought him in with their season on the line. All their good arms should be rested

Didn't get that either, granted the Padres lineup isn't exactly fearsome and maybe, they thought he could get them an inning before going to the good arms.

Head scratcher for the Diamondbacks tonight, Lovullo goes with his weakest arms.  To no surprise they get torched for a combined 7 runs.  Had they won tonight they would have controlled their own destiny.  Lovullo may have cost them a spot in the playoffs tonight.
