Brewers acquire catcher Bo Naylor and RHP Codi Heuer from Guardians for RHP Craig Yoho and OF Blake Perkins.

The Chicago White Sox acquired starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners on August 1, 2026, in exchange for reliever Seranthony Domínguez, outfielder Nolan Jones, and catching prospect Boston Smith.

Castillo -0.7 WAR, $24 million next year and add another $25 million in 2028 if he gets 180 innings plus next year. Very few worse starters than him right now.

Any of the teams in the mix including the Cubs could have meet or beat it. It's like Harris took the first package Friedman offered and didn't negotiate or talk to anyone else. There's still 40ish hours left FFS

Question now for Hoyer is how serious does he get on Monday?

50 games left , 7 back of the Brewers

Is he gonna unload his best prospect to get to the playoffs, and prepare to face the Dodgers in divisional round, or does he do the minimum to get an arm or two and be happy to get there.

Maybe Skubal wanted to go there and the Tigers made a mostly sweetheart deal as a thank you to him

Jed has never put his big boy trade pants on unless it was trading big boys away. I’ll believe it when I see it.

He'll get whomever wont cost him one of his top 3-5 hitting prospects

Well, the "good" news is if Milwaukee gets the best record (they currently have it) and the Cubs stay in WC1 they couldn't play LA in the LDS .

One wonders if they gave Skubal some say in this and he said he wanted to go to the Dodgers?  Because yes, at first glance it seems the Cubs and several other teams could have matched that offer?  Bottom line the other owners care about baseball they need to quit dealing with the Dodgers on deals like this!!

Maybe the other owners want this so that they can justify their lockout by pointing at the Dodgers?

The Cubs literally traded a top-30 prospect and a controlled, three win 3b for one year of Kyle Tucker last offseason. A trade that people on this forum called a "Lou Brock" trade multiple times, threw a fit over it because they knew it was just Jed "trying to save his job" or whatever...

We can't have it both ways. We can't be upset that Jed Hoyer did the Tucker thing then say he never makes big boy trades. 

Skubal would have been cool, but they were always really unlikely to get this one done. There are other big pitching fish they can still fry, however. None may have the single-season impact of Skubal, but Skubal is still going to hit FA and the Cubs can still make that happen if they so choose. And there's a good chance whomever they do get, if they're on multiple years, could still be a very impactful player.

I doubt it. The Tigers just, for whatever reason, really liked this package. If you ask me, I think they got a little tunnel vision on "MLB ready SP" and over rate River Ryan's value because he's MLB ready and can step into a rotation tomorrow. They were never getting Emmett Sheehan, and this was the next best "ready" SP they had to offer (the Brewers have a lot of younger prospects but no arms ready like Ryan, for example). 

We will get a handful of "we tried" rumors today of what Milwaukee was offering or the Rays and I have a feeling I'll end up, personally preferring those offers (I don't love River Ryan). But my strong assumption here is Harris got stuck on the pitcher and went this way because of it.
