If Dora the Expolerer was a Cub fan she would be singing that right now.

Of Derrek Lee's NL Leading 3,560,316 votes, 3,277,475 were cast online.

After being behind by more than 300,000 votes with days to go, Lee beat Pujols by more than 100k which means a swing of over 400,000 votes in just a matter of days.

Props to the following:

1) Derrek Lee for being so GOOD that you couldn't help but vote for the guy

2) the many Cubs blogs, forums, and sites who ruthlessly promoted the "Vote for Derrek Lee" campaign

3) the many readers/members of the Cubs related sites who took the time to stuff those ballot boxes for Lee

4) Vance who led the NSBB campaign and probably ended up voting more times for Derrek than any other person online

* special mention to David Eckstein whom the Cards fans pushed so hard for that they totally forgot about Pujols in the last few days

Feel free to add any others who deserves credit for making Derrek the top vote getter.

Congratulations to the many Cardinal fans, Al Hrabosky excluded, who voted for Lee because he clearly deserved to start.

Agreed. There were a lot of interesting swings this year pertaining to All Star balloting.

Obviously the Pujols/Lee (this guys great but this guy is even better this year) was intreaging

The NL SS which went from Nomar to Caesar to Eckstein

AL OF where a grassroots campaign from Red Sox Nation got Johnny Damon in the game.

That's why Lee is starting with Eckstein. Not all of us are 100% homers, just 2/3 apparently. The funny thing about it is that a ton of Cards fans voted for Lee, Rolen, and Eckstein when voting for Albert @ 1B would be the most defendable of the three positions.

Explain why Rolen deserves to start over Ensberg or Ramirez?

NM, we all know he doesn't!

THose numbers seem strange to me. DO the Cubs not have ballots at Wrigley? He should have won by a wide margin if fans at games voted?

How does this thing work, anyway?

Congrats to Derrek Lee (and his loyal Cubbie fans) for his selection as a starter. Funny thing though. Albert Pujols will most likely DH and remain in the game for it's entirety, while Derrek will be removed (probably after 2 AB's) to allow someone else to play...

I hope this sits well with all the Cubs' fans out there.

Albert won't remain in the game for its' entirety. I'll bet that either Alou or Luis Gonzalez come in for him at some point.

Perhaps if you'd taken the time to think you wouldn't have posted this message. First of all, Allstar starters must play at least 3 innings. Secondly, outside of Derrek Lee, Pujols is the only other first baseman on the roster. Therefore, if Pujols starts the game at DH he will most likely be lifted during the game to let another reserve player bat (then spend the remainder of his time on the bench). Conversely, if Lee is removed someone who is unfamiliar with firstbase would have to play the position and considering LaRussa's agenda to win the game, it is highly unlikely that he removes Lee's gold glove for a reserve...

We are all presuming that Albert will be the starting DH. If that is the case he will probably be lifted. However, LaRussa may not start Pujols at DH at all, he may allow Lee to play the first half of the game and Pujols the remainder while allowing several different reserve OF to bat DH throughout the game.

Taking everything into consideration, the most likely senario is that Derrek Lee will play first base the entire game and at some point he will be teamed up with Aramis Ramirez at thirdbase.

I hope this sits well with all you Cardinals fans out there!

Well, seeing as Lee and Pujols are the only 2 first baseman, and Pujols will almost certainly be the DH, who would come in to play first if Lee is removed? That is why I cannot believe Delgado or Johnson weren't chosen also. I know it is probably because they had to get someone from an unrepresented team in there, but it seems strange.

That's why I think Lee will play the entire game at firstbase. Derrek is used to playing every inning of every game so it wont be an issue. LaRussa won't remove him.

I hope Lee gets one at-bat, gets out, and then sits on the bench for the rest of the game.

I'm glad Lee made the team as a starter. He's a better fielder than Pujols so it only makes sense that he'd play first and Pujols DH.

Hopefully he'll make a diving play and save the game, giving the Cardinals home field advantage in the Series. Wouldn't that be ironic?

Ensberg was robbed.

Yeah, he was. Troy Glaus is another NL third baseman more worthy than Rolen. And David Wright, and even Joe Randa. This is why there needs to be some way to regulate who starts the ASG. Perhaps qualifiers like AB's would help.

I am really sick of the notion of players getting voted in based on career performance. The ASG is supposed to be a showcase for players who are having a great year.

yeah, this makes me feel soooo good  especially when the Cubs just fell 11.5 out of the division and 5 out of the WC. Meanwhile, the team OBP is .325 even with Lee's .451 and the Cub's staff has an ERA of 4.30 resulting in the team being outscored for HALF a season......no more excused about small sample size, 81 games and they have a run differential of -1!

Basically, who gives a flying you know what about Lee's plans for All-star weekend when the Cubs are looking like they could be folding for the season.

This BS reminds me of the Sammy years.........Cubs 17 out at the break, no problem, Sammy's starting in the All-Star game and hitting a ton of HRs.......big hairy deal!!!!!!!
