Why is it always some garbage hitter causing us problems? Carrol had 10 rbi's all year and has 2 today already.

Sheesh.

this lineup + this strikezone + terrible 0-2 pitches = game over.

what good is having a filthy curveball if all you ever wanna do is throw fastballs with two strikes? Let them get themselves out mark, #-o

this lieup is pathetic-how can you expect to string together any hits with Neifi-Macias-Blanco-Corey making up 50% of your lineup-stoopid

Was Bob Brenly really just advocating replacing Patterson instead of Hollandsworth in a trade?

Good. Someone within the Cubs organization needs to step up and say it.

He's right, you know. But I couldn't believe he said it out loud.

In a perfect world, we'd get a new CF and a new LF.

unfortuantly, with our lineup today Prior basically needed to toss a shutout. Top to bottom, this is not a lineup that can contend.

What exactly did he say?

Patterson has been horrible this year but in no way is Todd Hollandsworth getting anywhere near the production that is needed out of a corner outfield spot.

which one of our outfielders should be starting on a team that is serious about making the playoffs? Hendry did an absolutely, horrible job this off season.

I don't really care what position they play as far as their production is concerned. All I care about is winning games, and it's pretty clear that Todd is helping us to win games more than Corey is. Now, if we can upgrade in left, I'd love to do it, don't get me wrong. But at this point, I don't think the Cubs will contend with Patterson playing everyday.

I don't know how this team can be considered a legitmate post season contender with the overall outfield production, Burnitz included too. I know this has been mentioned repeatedly, but without Lee's ungodly season, this team would be dead in the water right now. As Lee has slightly cooled off the past week or so, LF and RF need to pick up the slack for this team to remain a contender.

well you are right and wrong. They need to upgrade, but they will contend because the pitching is that good.

I disagree, I don't think our offense is good enough to support our great pitching. And that doesn't make me "wrong" either. That's my opinion.

The only reason I mention the importance of the positions is that teams typically look for the corner infield and outfield positions for the huge offensive production. Up the middle being typically defensive stengths.

Right now, we are weak- very weak- at too many positions to talk about contending until some moves are made.

We start Neifi at short, Corey, Hollandsworth/Dubois, Blanco, and today Macias and we're wondering why we're not hitting. Hmmm...

A case might be made that Mark Prior is the 5th best hitter in this lineup behind Lee, Burnitz, Walker, and Hollandsworth.

I also disagree. And it's not like our pitching is great. 3/5s of our starting pitching *should* be great. And our bullpen is just plain bad.
