Unknown on Tucker, but I like the idea of bringing him back after a good rest.  He was all kinds of jumbled.

What do you mean? He was doing well when he got hurt. He came out of his funk and was hitting. How is that all kinds of jumbled?
In 52 AB before his injury he was hitting .364 with OBP of .462 and slugging .727.

Magic number is 2 with 4 days/games left?

Yeah.  In a good spot.  Could possibly rest some guys on Sat and Sun if they clinch soon.

Encouraging win. Teed off on a scrub starting pitcher, good sequencing luck with 10 runs on 15 baserunners, nice response to an extended losing streak with a blowout win a wrigley… Atypical of what we’ve watched for months. Now do it again.
Solid year from Busch.

He would probably be in their sites as well.

Bieber would be the quintessential Cubs/Jed Hoyer free agent. Sign him while his price tag is lowest and hope he becomes another Cody Bellinger to spend on war in the most efficient way possible, at the expense of opening his wallet for a sure thing like a Max Fried and landing Boyd instead. Credit to him though for getting creative with financial restrictions, Toms private jet fuel is expensive.

Cal Raleigh bringing back that steroid-era power surge

He’s doing that squatting for 8-9 innings in catchers gear, in the least hitter friendly park in baseball as a switch hitter. It’s preposterous.

Yeah, I think they did.  It's harder to believer the Tigers is fighting for the last wild card spot, though.

How come the Pirates could beat the Reds twice in 2 games in Cincinnati?  We were 0-4.

Fairly certain if the Tigers don't win the AL Central they're out.

Actually the Astros are losing at such a high clip the Tigers are still in the drivers seat for that last WC berth.

And tigers own the tie breaker against the Astros. They are one up and own the tie breaker.

Completely forgot the Astros have been terrible as well.

Thanks, I'd rather have the Tigers back in to the last WC spot than the Astros.  Tigers finish at the Red Sox, who appear to be locked into the #2 WC, and Astros finish at the Angels.  Both finish with teams having not much to play for sometimes, when you're in the position of the Tigers and Astros.  Beating teams playing out the string is very though.

Fair.  Prior to that he was a mess, but those numbers suggest he had come out of it.

Oh, absolutely. He was struggling mightily. Hopefully he can get right back into what he was doing his last 52 AB.

Quietly, or maybe, not so quietly, Matt Shaw has eclipsed Cam Smith, they've basically flipped first and second halves.  Ultimately, they'll probably both turn out to be good players, maybe, Shaw ends up being the higher average hitter whereas, Smith ends up with a little more power.

I don’t think a deadline trade for a useful starting pitcher was a reality. Maybe Kelly? But that is about it. From reports since the deadline, it sounds like teams wanted Horton, Shaw, Cassie etc. A combo of those guys. I think the issue is they shouldn’t have put themselves in this position. They should have gotten pitching in the off season. Instead of Rea, maybe they should have gotten Pivetta. It was reported that even the pirates wanted more than Cassie for Keller. The Cubs mistake was expecting pitching to be available.

I still maintain Jed should have taken a chance on Luzardo, currently, it appears the Phillies gave up nothing.  Both of the Phillies' prospects in the trade had poor low minors seasons although, one of them, Boyd, did get prompted.  The injury concerns with Luzardo, yes, Soroka had some injury concerns, Jed still went ahead with that trade.

Maybe. But what makes you think Cam Smith hits for more power? He has 9 homers while playing in Houston. Shaw has 13. And Shaw has 60 less AB.

Just a guess, but, that may pan not either, doesn't Smith hit a decent amount of GB's.  Maybe, too many GB's?

I thought Cam Smith was elected to the HOF after the Cubs series?

During the moment it sure as horsefeathers was irritating, believe many thought Shaw would come around.  Cubs caught Smith at the beginning of a very productive stretch of the season, his numbers reached their peak a few days after in Colorado.  Although, I believe, over the course of games 2 and 3 the Cubs figured out Smith has trouble with high FB's.  Taillon struck him out twice with high heaters in game 3.
