C Miguel Amaya
Injury: Left ankle sprain
IL date: Aug. 14 (10-day IL)
Expected return: TBD
Status: A return for Amaya has not yet been ruled out, but manager Craig Counsell noted the catcher had to slow down activity last week due to some lingering issues. The hope is to get him back in rehab games before Triple-A season ends. (updated Sept. 10)

Why. If the Brewers just take care of their business and end with the best record in the NL (currently up by 2 games and win the tie breaker against the Phillies) they probably won’t see the Giants. And even if they don’t finish first in the NL, the Giants have to get past the Dodgers to play them in rhe NLDC. I doubt the Brewers have any concerns about the Giants.
As a Cubs fan, I really hope the Brewers end up with the best record in the NL. I would much rather play them than the Phillies in that round.

You are correct, sorry I forgot about the first round by for the top 2 seeds.  Probably nobody wants to play the Giants right now is my overriding point - they are the hottest team in baseball right now.

The Mets are having the collapse that so many Cubs' fans are convinced the Cubs are having.

Padres are having it rough too.  6-9 in their last 15 games so even though we are treading water we were able to stay arms distance from them to this point.  Of course they are playing the Rockies at home right now, so.....

Eh. The Brewers stayed hot for 6 weeks and it was near unprecedented in 100whatever years of baseball. Being hot on 9/12 does not mean being hot on 10/3.

I miss when the B-R Play Index was free because I would have looked up how many teams had ever gone 39-9 before.

Don't know what their best 48 game stretch was, though it was better because they went 44-7 at one point, but the 2017 Dodgers started 35-25, then were 91-36, then were 92-52. It’s just wild that a team would go 56-11 and then immediately follow it up by going 1-16.

Honestly, the. Cubs  are 1-5 against the Giants and the Giants are hot. Both true statements. That said, I would gladly face the Giants in the playoffs. I would much rather see them instead of the Dodgers or Phillies, and maybe even the Brewers or Padres.

Every team always plays fri-sat-sun for the big weekend crowds.  So Mon and Thurs are the travel days, and teams  typically get a 3- game series in during the week Mon-Tues-Wed or Tues-Wed-Thurs.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the reply.

2001 Mariners went 48-12 twice.

Me too. And I have been around long enough to remember the collapse in ‘69. Santo is my all time favorite player.

My father almost lost the home (dramatic a bit) on a bet with a guy that the Mets would win it outright and …..well, you know the rest lol
