Matt Shaw has been really good since being elevated again. Finally having a 3B who can play baseball well is a good thing.

Brutal, unlucky loss.

Hopefully we can stop sucking on Sundays, losing a series to the horsefeathers Reds would be annoying,

Cubs had an xBA of .439 that game to the Reds' .252

That is because Abbott knew how to have the hard context he allowed be hit at people….🤮. Reds got lucky today. End of story. It happens.

I was pretty confident the Cubs would split today’s and tomorrow’s game.  They’ll get good Ben Brown and win tomorrow.

Guess you were right Jason

Based it on his defense. Hes just not ready to be an MLB catcher. His bat is ready. His glove is not. I was hoping to be wrong and they thought it was ready, but this confirms that.

They snapped the Sunday skid this past Sunday.

so what's the 40 man move for McGuire?

Best guess: Cosgrove, DFA. Figure he's behind both Thielbar and Pomeranz at the MLB level for LHP and Luke Little has been pretty dominant recently.

They have one open spot on the 40.

Is it the Merryweather spot?

Ish? They added Kriske when they DFA'd Merryweather. But Thaw is correct, the 40 is currently at 39. So open spot remains.

Just one of those days where nothing goes right. Abbott was very lucky and Rea has been pretty unlucky.

Can't win em all.  At least they made it a close game, better than being blown out lol.

Rea also didn't look good at times, lost command etc, everyone has an off game here and there, he was bound to regress somewhat eventually.

Shaw still looks pretty stiff out there at 3b at times.  Hopefully he'll look at least a bit better once he gets more reps in the MLB and can start to relax instead of worrying about proving himself at 3b.

When he hit that last double he showed off his speed, he's pretty fast.

I would expect a heavier Carson Kelly dose than we have seen, switching from the flip-flop starts to like a 2-on one-off (Reese starts) situation.

Agree.
