What would you all be willing to give up to get Skenes?

If… he gets traded the Pirates would want a ton.

Nope, cost would be too prohibitive.  Believe someone such as Alcantara would be less expensive and give the Cubs what they need.

There's no way they would want to trade him to a division team.  I guess maybe if the Cubs paid a premium but their fans would be pissed.

Theyll likely want pitching prospects in return and if they're willing to trade him to a divisional team, plus he's under team control for 4 more years, it gonna cost.

Id trade Brown, Wicks, and ??

Probably have to add 3 of our top 5 prospects to those two for the pirates to even talk.

I don’t think Skenes will get moved for another 2 years

Compare Alcantara and Skenes' numbers. Not the same universe

You are working under the assumption the Pirates owner gives a damn about Pirates fans. Which he does not.

Ask yourself what it would take for you to deal PCA, discount it ~20% because of pitcher attrition, and that's what Skenes would cost.  You're talking something insane like Busch, Shaw, and Horton.

Id do it. But instead of Busch include Caissie and Alcantara

Remember when we donged Skenes 3 times in 1 game? He hasn't been donged since. Just 4 times all year.

He's so horsefeathers good. With that performance and that much control i have a hard time believing Busch, Horton, and Shaw get it done. Skenes would set a whole new precedent. He just hit the 200 IP mark for his career and he has a 2.1 ERA and matching periphs.

If or When Hoyer looks to trade for a SP, my guess it'll be for someone that either in last year of contract or only has a year left.

Likely will be owed around 10 mil or alot less for remainder of season when they get him.

Hoyer should be looking at possible available closers/late innings guys from teams under 500 when they get into June.

The Pirates have 3 AAA starters knocking on the door, all with great stuff.

Their offense is abysmal, with no real help in sight.  The teams would actually match up well, but it would be incredibly expensive ala Bertz' suggestion above.

Would be nice to be a game 1 favorite against any team, though.

If Horton, Caissie, Ballesteros, Alcantara, Long got it done (it wouldn't) I'd have a hard time saying no.

The Cubs  need to consolidate some of that AAA talent into a young pitcher with control. I'm really hoping Washington falls out of it because Mackenzie Gore would be ideal. Take Caissie+Triantos+Wicks+another sizable piece, I don't care.

We are better off not torturing ourselves over fantasies of dealing for Skenes. That said, I will play along. The cost is probably in the neighborhood of Shaw, Horton, Alcantara+.

By no means was I suggesting they’ve comparable numbers.  Watched Alcantara last night, stuff is still there, consistency is an issue, he’s a guy whom the Cubs could. buy low. And he could turn it around in a better environment, he’s clearly frustrated and done with being a Marlin.

Small sample size, but the Reds lineup absolutely rakes against Rea.  Quick math and they are 20 for 61 with 5 players hitting HRs. Take out TJ Friedl's 0 for 11, and the lineup is 20 for 50 against Rea.

Hopefully that was the "old Colin Rea", and we get the "New and Improved Colin Rea" today.

All Rea has to do is keep the Cubs in the game, doesn’t have to go 6-7 shutout innings.  Just keep the score competitive and let the Cubs’ bats take over.

Done with Happ at leadoff until he shows he can hit ball with bat again

He is coming off the injury. It sometimes takes time to get back in rhythm.
