With the Cubs pen scuffling I don’t blame Counsell trying to get the 7th out of Rea. Just because it didn’t work out great doesn’t mean he made a bad decision. Had he came in with Palencia and he gave up 2 runs others would be complaining that he shouldn’t have taken Rea out with only 85 pitches thrown.

After Simon singled, he had thrown 97 pitches.

Apparently Palencia would like a word with whoever was downplaying his swing and miss ability. Two Ks looking is really nice.

I know. But the pen is not good right now. And he used Brown for over 100 the last time he went out, so it isn’t like he won’t let someone go over 100 pitches. Has he gotten that guy out no one would have said a word. Or has Palencia came in and gave up the homer people would have been critical that he took Rea out. It is easy to criticize a decision when something goes wrong.

Maybe the Cubs are starting to come out of the team wide funk, at least 6 balls hit with EV's of 100+.  If it weren't for the Marlins pulling defensive plays out of their collective asses the final score may have not been so close.

Yeah, the shot by Berti that Mervis snagged and the Nico ball to RF both would have added to the run total. I’d like to see the xBA on Nico’s ball.

He had 2 swinging strikes in 4 BF, 21 pitches. Not exactly a rebuttal.

I really appreciate that Pomeranz has come in and thrown strikes. He has been excellent. First MLB action in 3 years and he has a .5 WHIP. Thats pretty crazy.

That isn’t happening. Not enough AB for him once Happ comes back. Maybe Long would be a guy to bring up if the Cubs dfa Turner. But I think that won’t happen this soon.

Did some stuff around the house so couldn’t watch today after the fourth inning, but good to see they got the win. Good to see our next 8 games are against the Marlins, White Sox and then Marlins again.
