Completely random post that doesn't deserve it's own thread:

Is anyone else bothered by the Cubs' PA announcer?  I attend quite a few games, and this season especially his voice (the intonation specifically) has started to become extremely grating to me.  I can't say that I have every really paid much attention to PA announcers, until now that is.  I have really just started to get bothered by hearing the same reads with the same exact intonation over and over again.

You can tell me I'm crazy.  I almost certainly am.

Yes, your crazy. 😬 I don’t even notice him. And I go to a lot of games as well.

Now you will.  I'm sorry. 😁

Going today. Bet it doesn’t end up bothering me at all.

I don't really notice him much, but his tone patterns are so similar to the previous PA guy that it's amusing to me.

I do notice his voice is very similar to the previous PA guy.  I actually like him, if I leaned one way or the other about the PA  guy. But really I think I like him because I don’t really notice him. He blends into the sounds of the game and that is fine by me.

I really disliked Gene Honda when he took over for Harvey Wittenberg for Hawks games because he was so dramatically different. I have since adjusted to him and he’s just “meh” to me now. The video board “entertainment” at Wrigley is what I find most obnoxious. I don’t need all that and I don’t understand why anybody does.

I remember naively thinking "It will be great to be able to see replays on the video board!"

Now how often do they even show a replay?  That was never the point.

I could let a lot slide if they’d just give us Harry on the video board for every stretch.

But then how would you get to hear the Northwestern Women's Field Hockey team murder the song?

It should just be Harry. Or if they want they can replay ex Cubs who did it too. Santo, Sandberg. Guys like that. Not some nonsense celebrities without a Chicago connection. Mainly Harry but as I said, legendary ex cubs would be ok too, either a recording or them doing it live. Guys like Zobrist, Fergy, Rizzo, Sarge, etc….

FYI, Ray Burris wouldn’t qualify as a legendary Cub…..

I understood doing the guest conductor after Harry passed away. That said, it’s gone on ten years longer than it should have.

It's fine when they have people associated with the Cubs that don't butcher it, but they always insist on having smooth brains like that podcast host from earlier in the season.

You know the season is over when the message board is discussing the pros and cons of the PA announcer and the stretch singers.

😅 very true. I generally stay away from all the announcer/PA/singer conversations and even I got sucked into this one. Been a terrible stretch, that is for sure. Right now people are complaining about all things Cubs. And I get the frustration.

They're doing everything except not going to the games.

People being terrible at singing the stretch is hilarious and awesome.

Sorry, not really worried about the sanctity of a song that some lush burped out, and was a thing he didn't even start with the Cubs.

The point was showing ads to make money.  Same with Clark the Cub (show up to birthday parties in the box suites etc)

I'm still pissed that Craig sat both Shaw and Cassie yesterday.  I feel like the division is out of reach at 7 games; if it was 5 I'd say we still would have a shot.  Malpractice not to throw everything you had in the final matchup with the Brewers.

Craig even said that loss stung.  No horsefeathers horsefeathers!

Counsell is very much like David Ross, where he favors vets over rookies and players "earn" their spots based on their career, not based on recent trends. He was really stubborn to move off of Happ at leadoff, and now he's being stubborn with Busch. He continues to bat Kelly 4th/5th despite his horrible K rate.

I know we'll never get there, but I would LOVE to see what someone who was NOT a former player could do as a manager. I think there's just way too much baggage and bias that comes from being a former player
