PCA has cleared 4.0 fWAR this season. Now at 4.1.

Since 2000, the only Cubs position players with a seasonal fWAR greater than PCA's 2025 are:

  • Sammy Sosa (peaked at 9.9 in 2001)
  • Kris Bryant (peaked at 7.5 in 2016)
  • Derrek Lee (peaked at 7.0 in 2005)
  • Alfonso Soriano (peaked at 7.0 in 2007)
  • Moises Alou (peaked at 5.9 in 2004)
  • Javier Baez (peaked at 5.8 in 2018)
  • Anthony Rizzo (peaked at 5.2 in 2014)
  • Corey Patterson (peaked at 5.0 in 2004)
  • Dansby Swanson (peaked at 4.9 in 2023)
  • Aramis Ramirez (peaked at 4.8 in 2007)
  • Cody Bellinger (peaked at 4.4 in 2023)
  • Nico Hoerner (peaked at 4.3 in 2022)
  • Dexter Fowler (peaked at 4.3 in 2016)
  • Mark DeRosa (peaked at 4.2 in 2008)

There's a pretty long list of current and former Cubs who never had a season this good with us. Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Willson Contreras, Kyle Schwarber, Geovany Soto, Ben Zobrist, Addison Russell, Starlin Castro, etc...

And we're not even at the All-Star Break.

He might be having the greatest season he will ever have. He wouldn't be the first player to do that in his age-23 season. However, his floor is like a 3-4 war player as long as he gets 600 PA. If he hits, he's a HOF player.

This can't be true, he is disqualified because he took a bad route to a ball once and forgot the number of outs another time according to Cardinals and Brewers twitter,

Should have been benched, clearly has been a shell of himself since that happened.

According to baseball savant, 38 players have at least 10 opportunities at a 5 star catch this year. Everyone besides PCA have made 21 5 star catches combined and no players have made more than 3. PCA has 10 by himself. And it’s not like he’s had way more chances either. He’s one of 8 with 15+ chances. He’s made 10 of 15, which is a 66.7% success rate. Second place is Eli White at 33% and he’s 1-3 this year.

For his career he’s 18-32, which is a 56.3% catch rate. There’s only 1 player who has a 30+% catch rate who has more than 8 chances, which is Andrew Toles at 4-13 (30.8%). PCA’s 18 catches is also tied for the most with Kiermaier and Michael Taylor. Those two have 102 and 148 chances at 5 star catches.

There is no doubt he is still a nincompoop. This does not negate him being the best defender ever.

With Judge out due to injury for an unknown amount of time, there is a very real chance PCA finishes the year with the highest bWAR in MLB:
