True, but that commitment would have only been for 2 years, I believe he's a FA after 26.  He's also been one of the more durable pitchers in the game since he got to the show, sans last year

If there was a better option to play 3B, Shaw shouldn't be here right now.  But our other options are a 40 year old who can't really play the position anymore, and a rule 5 pick who may be even more overmatched at the plate than Shaw.
