Real games start today.

In Illinois news, Ty Rodgers, one of two holdovers from last year, is redshirting due to a perceived lack of minutes available.

As to why there would not be minutes available for someone who started on an elite eight team last year, see tonight's shooting numbers, 42 3-pt attempts, 46 ft attempts. That's just not Ty's game, and that's the way they want to play this year.

Michigan looked incredible last night.  Yes against Cleveland State who was somewhere in the 180s on KenPom but they won by nearly 50 and looked incredible moving the ball offensively.  Last year's team would have won by like 6.

I didn't realize how brutal UofI's out of conference schedule is. They've got #2 Alabama, #12 Tennessee and #16 Arkansas. For a team with basically 1 returning player, that's going to be rough.

They also have Duke at MSG

Honestly I love it. I feel like this was always the Izzo approach. Schedule a tough out of conference, which sometimes means getting into the tourney as a 6 seed or whatever, but by that point you’ve racked up all kinds of experience against top level competition. It might be a little bumpy early on but I think it’s good for the team in the long run.

Yep, this is college basketball...you aren't going to screw your season over if you have a tough non-conference schedule and take some bumps especially considering things like Q1 wins are much much more impactful than Q1 losses are bad.  If you schedule 9 Q1 games during non-conference and go 3-6, thats 3 Q1 wins!

Michigan made tourney 3 seasons ago with a 17-14 overall record because they had the number 2 SOS in the country and were 7-11 in Q1 games.  Heck they didn't even have to play in Dayton.

After last night's win, just a friendly reminder that Purdue is now 39-0 in non-conference play since 2000.

What the hell kind of Purdue math has the team playing around 1.5 "non-conference" games per year?

I know conference expansion is out of control, but last I checked UConn, Fairleigh Dickison and Saint Peter's weren't in the conference.

Fair enough.

I'll correct my mistake and be extra explicit.

No team has beaten Purdue in non-conference play outside of the tournament since 2020.

Y'all happy now?

Well, you know, astronauts and rocket surgery and all, it's probably since 2021 or thereabouts. Saw the correction above, I was close, 2020.

Purdue math still says undefeated against non-conference opponents since 2000

I thought it was a pretty good run. We all knew it wouldn't last forever.

it was incredible, just thought it was ironic that it ended the next game after that discussion

Don't worry, Purdue fans are still undefeated in their sister's bedrooms.
