From the comments at least, the Cubs have exactly the sense of urgency I was looking for. You don't want to start flipping out just yet, but it seems they're aware they have to make it happen post haste.

I'd say today is a must win - can't lose 2/3 to the Giants. Sure hope they get off to a quick start offensively.

I don't know. The last 4 games or so they look like a different team. They have been playing much harder, IMO.

Whether or not it translates, who knows. They lost a tough game in extras with the wind howling in at 1am. It happens.

But today absolutely is a must win.

7/27 ~ Macias leading off. Just fold the tent Dusty. :x

Even has Todd Hollansworth playing, especially the month that Murton is having.

Unreal. *Shaking his head in pity*

After 112 pitches, it's nice to see Dusty run Zambrano out there again.

Good thing Baker has that 140 pitch count limit for Z or else he might end up abusing his arm.

then you would be a crappy manager too

 The disease has gone airborne! Priceless comment. Gold.

2 extra inning games in a row.

Z looking strong. I'd stick with him too.

Well, that worked out great, didn't it?

A 3rd extra inning game in a row would be a good thing, at this point...

Dusty must go now. He is seriously tanking our team. His decisions from constant line up changes, irresponsible righty/lefty matchups, sitting the kids, leaving pitchers in the game when they have already exceeded their pitch count, putting in Z to pitch run, riding dead horses Neifi and Holly all the way to the cellar...... Arghhh

It's almost like he has a soft spot in his heart for SF and wants to give the games to them.

Oh god enough with the pitch counts. 130 pitches, let alone 112 isn't an alarming amount for Z. Your worreis would be better placed fretting about him getting hurt on a slide or barehanding a line drive.

As for Baker running him out there I didn't have a problem with it...initially. But given Zs borderline effectiveness in today's game he should have been on a VERY short leash. He should have been yanked after the single, and most definitely after the double. Dusty leaving him in after that point was beyond poor judgement and it may very well cost this team the game.

I can't believe this team might lose a Z vs. Tomko matchup. If this loss (if it happens) isn't enough to get Hendry to realize this team has no chance than I don't know what is. When your team has been on the rollercoaster 100 games there's no reason to assume the can do otherwise now.

Johnny B. Baker is an imbecile. He's an abomination as a manager, and it's a disgrace that the man gets paid millions of dollars to manage a baseball team.

I'd take Jim Riggleman over the guy...

I'd like to see the cubs steal Ned Yost away from Milwaukee, he does phenominal things with rookies and no namers....

It is very very difficult for a team to win when they have to battle not only the opposing team but their own manager too. We should all be ecstatic that this team has won as many games as they have.

Except for your first paragraph, I agree with every word.

WTF! Why would Dusty bring in Remlinger? Everyone in Chicago knows how absolutely pathetic he's been except Dusty the all knowing idiot who somehow is a manager for the Chicago Cubs. We are not going anywhere with him as our manager.

Is there any reason you didn't post this in the game threads, rants or the bad managerial moves thread?

Seriously, we don't need 5 new "Dusty sucks" threads in baseball discussions every night.

Why not? Maybe a Cubs exec will stumble upon the forum and see the quantity of Dusty hate
