Ok, now we're into spectacular territory.

From watching the game, he definitely wasn't spectacular.  But he was very good, and made some excellent throws.  He kept his eyes downfield even more than I had ever seen before.

There were still some weird are they Justin Fields fault but they keep happening to his team sort of moments though like the snap that went off his face that basically ended the game.

I only saw one play of Fields and he ran backwards for 25 yards, got sacked, and got the team out of field goal range.

its unfair to judge him by that alone but I definitely don’t miss it

He still fumbles too much and makes some head scratching plays but he's been solid this year

#16 in total passing yards

#6 in completion %

#18 in QBR

#12 in RTG

He's been, more or less, a league average QB

If you don't consider his rushing abilities, sure.

Why did we get rid of David Montgomery again?

Because Poles correctly realized that you shouldn't pay Running Backs. That is until he messed up and signed Swift ....

Real megaminds just happened to come to the conclusion that pretty much any second contract in the NFL is ineffizient. It’s big brain stuff

Non-Bears fans probably don't know that he was wholly mediocre with the Bears, he could rarely push a pile and get short yardage, and he was a poor scheme fit compared to Herbert who had just ripped off 5.7 YPC to Montgomery's 4.0 the year prior.

Countpoint: he was big, versatile, abg avg athlete with a strong overall history and not a ton of wear and tear. These Iowa State guys have been coming to the league ready to hang, have been very successful and so this success doesn’t stun me

Ftr I’m most saying that the Bears woulda coulda shoulda seen success for him as very achievable. They most got to fall back on league mechanics, rhetoric, and conventional industrial thinking

Montgomery was offered a similar contract by the Bears, but Montgomery saw greener pastures and chose to explore them. I think he ended up with more guaranteed money from Detroit than the Bears offered, but let's not pretend the Bears weren't interested in retaining him.

And that's ignoring he moved to a much better situation. Detroit is on pace to have 2 1000 yard rushers this year. Their line is far superior to what the Bears are putting out there week to week.
