I always kinda wondered if there was any appetite from either the coaches or the pitcher himself to just send him out there with strict instructions to throw 82 mph warm up style pitches from the stretch the middle and see if you can BABIP-luck your way into it.

They’re going to get hurt at some point or another. Might as well let them go for glory. 25 extra pitches this one game isn’t going to be the difference between Shota getting hurt in the future.

Shota has only gone over 100 (103) once I think for the Cubs. His long term health is the most importanat thing.

They got hurt throwing limited innings. It can happen anytime.  The likelihood of Shota getting injured on 25 more pitches is just about the same as his first 25. We're not talking Prior going 110 pitches about every time out.
