Sure, he could have had a better stat line with some better luck. He could have also easily had 2-3 picks if it goes a different way.

But the funnier angle is that the Bears winning kinda screwed him.  If they were still down 17-3 in the fourth quarter, he probably matches Jayden Daniels' stat line

A big reason why some of the loftier stat line expectations were not realistic.  I'd be thrilled with a solid 3,600 yard year if it was good efficiency, grades and Ws

Jenkins review showed they were close, Shelton getting blown up didn't help although, had he not been tripped by his fellow lineman. He probably still gets beat but, I think the LB doesn't get to Caleb as quick and Caleb hits Allen for the TD.  Caleb will improve, he's shown accuracy is generally not a problem, I fully expect a noticeable improvement Sunday night.

Teven barely had a double-digit pass-pro grade. That OL could definitely be our downfall offensively.

I don't think it was *as* bad as people are saying.  The interior is the weak part, for sure, but I would give them a D+ for the game, maybe even a C-.

There were a few brutal mistakes for sure. Both sacks were on them, as was the batted pass on third and goal

A few plays they got blamed for by fans weren't on them, like the FB whiffing a block on a blitzing DB, or Williams picking the wrong arm slot when faced with a DL on a screen

The percentage of acceptable pockets was about average overall, and the running game got going in the second half.

Just like Williams' stat line would look better if other people hadn't screwed up, the offensive line wouldn't be getting this much heat if other people had done their jobs.

Trenton Gill career: 38.5 yard net average, 3.5:1 ratio of inside 20 to touchbacks

Tory Taylor in his debut: 36.3 net, 3:1 ratio of inside 20 to tbs

A punter is a punter is a punter

To be fair it seemed like the Bears offense constantly stalled out at or near the 50 where a majority of the punts occurred.

The Bears seem to be favoring Everett. Started in the preseason. Very strange since they just gave him an extension

Wasn’t the critique on Waldron’s offense that he didn’t get the ball into his playmakers’ hands enough? Hopefully that isn’t an issue here.

I feel like the one time he had a chance to really boom one he hit a monster punt to flip the field.

Watching the QB breakdowns by Jenkins and JT make me feel a bit better about Caleb's game. But it makes me feel MUCH worse about Waldron's.

Not that it was necessarily Waldron's fault, but the execution was just terrible. The interior OL obviously was bad which hurt some plays. There were plenty of tipped passes, due to pressure, which hurt other plays. And then there were a lot of plays where the QB and receiver weren't on the same page. It mostly comes down to execution, but as Bears fans for the last several years, we know this is the same thing that plagued other Bears offenses.

Rome tripped Braxton on a screen, Jenkins tripped Shelton, DJ/Keenan in the same place on a slant/stop, Keenan/Rome went to the same place on the dropped snap by Caleb. Shelton passed the NT onto Davis on the 19 yard sack and Davis just let him go. Just a mess of an offense, which we have seen too much before. I put that on Waldron.

And I can't even begin to explain why we've continued to have these same stupid issues with Flus/Nagy, multiple OCs, multiple QBs, different sets of WRs. It makes no sense, but needs to be corrected ASAP. I know it's 1 game and all, but this is professional football, my son's HS team doesn't have this many issues. Failure to catch the ball, block your assignment, and throw accurately will happen. But you can't combine that with multiple instances of the receivers not being in the right place, guys tripping over each other, and straight up not knowing what you are supposed to do on any given play.

Honestly, I think it's just bad qb play exacerbating ordinary mistakes. Teams that get good qb play forget about their mistakes because the drops are followed with another good pass that regains what was lost.

Also if a lot of those Waldron critiques are execution based that's not just a Waldron, but an entire coaching staff critique. If it was purely play calling, then that's Waldron, but Flus is responsible for practice tone and pre season strategy to get guys mentally ready to execute.

It's a funny chart. Not the least of which the absolute bomb of a throw Richardson had that got lots of chatter v where he is on that chart (assuming it's an accurate chart and all).

But yea, want to see Caleb flip his spot on the x axis athere

two things I've changed my mind on since obsessively watching all the film reviews

1) the first sack wasn't on the C. It was 50% rg and 50% qb

2) Keenan allen was way better than I gave him credit for, was easily the best wr on either team

Did anyone else that normally watches the film breakdowns just completely ignore them this week?  I just....really wanted to flush that one and never think about it again.

Anyways, injury report from today:

Hope Keenan is ok.  Really don't want to go into game 2 after a rough game 1 offensively without Rome and Keenan both out.  The rest seems pretty much as expected.

Shelton does have some blame on the sack. The guy started in the gap to his left and went all the way across his face to the gap on the right. He didn't even hit him until the DT was past him. That being said, RG has to at least acknowledge the guy running past him and put a hand on him, then Shelton recovers and makes the block.

I do think the DE read the screen and then went after Caleb when he saw him being chased.
