Cool, he has as many hits today as he had in his last 30 ABs 🤷‍♂️

His wRC+ before the game was 99 as well. So he was hitting below league. Nice to see him hit a bomb but hes been god awful

My last year playing MSBL (Men’s Baseball League) I was on a team with a talent level that was well beyond mine. Every time I got to bat the coach made me bunt.

Here’s to you PCA! We are brothers.

Dammit Happ you ruined my “the Cubs have been literally completely incapable of taking a lead of larger than 2 runs for a month” stat.

oh, umm I mean go Cubs yay

Amazing parity in the NL this year.  currently the Padres sit in the #2 WC position at 37-37.  The Mets are 2 games out of the WC at 32-37 and THERE ARE SEVEN TEAMS IN BETWEEN THOSE TWO CLUBS.

That is crazy.

I didn’t watch today so going through baseball savant to see what I missed. The 4 hardest hit balls of the day were all by the Cubs and those 4 batted balls produced 5 outs

 1. Morel - 109.2, .450 xBA, groundout

2. Suzuki - 106.8, .890 xBA, lineout

3. Hoerner, 103.5, .530 xBA, groundout

4. Tauchman, 103.5, .420 xBA, GIDP

Actually the Cubs had the 6 hardest hit balls, luckily 5 and 6 were both singles.

But as ****** as the Cubs have played, it seems like they’re also getting super unlucky.

edit: that said Happ’s HR would have only been out in 2 other parks so I guess some luck there.

It happens like this all over the league though, especially the hard grounders, these teams nowadays know how to defense these hitters and are positioned almost perfectly.

So these line drives that go right to an outfielder or hard grounders being right at a fielder isn't unlucky,  it's just good scouting by the opponents.

I blame Jed Hoyer and Yan Gomes.

But we are #3 in largest difference between xBA and BA, #2 in xSLG and SLG, and #2 in xwOBA and wOBA.

We’ve been bad, but also very unlucky.

There's a difference between expectations and reality, even in baseball.

God awful is a stretch. Firstly, a 99 wRC+ means he's been 1% worse than a league average hitter. That's a bit of a disappointment for someone who's been a 20% better than league average hitter the last two seasons, but "god awful"? No.

Secondly, Happ has a 130 wRC+ over his last 103 PAs. That's assuredly not God awful.

Happ had a rough April but has been well back to "normal Happ" for a bit.
