Might as well just bring back Belli and Suzuki a few days early and let them PH until they can ‘officially’ start in games.

Also I stopped following for a bit, didn’t realize Gomes homered. Still don’t think he should have hit but it’s encouraging to see him do something.

P. Wis probably needs to be getting more ABs

He should have hit for Happ in the 7th, even though Happ drew a walk. We needed a big hit there and they had the LHP in there who had only faced one batter.

Baseball is a game completely full of things that seem designed to annoy you but nothing annoys me more than loading the bases with 0 outs and not scoring.  It shouldn't annoy me as much as it does, there are obviously still many situations where you can fail but it always leaves such a bad taste in my mouth when it happens.

If you take out Hendricks's 5 starts, our starting pitchers have a 1.92 ERA this year. Hendricks has accounted for 28 of the 61 ER allowed by our starters.

I know it maybe sounds greedy to say we're "only" 21-15, but to see that stat and know that we're only 21-15 is frustrating.

It was a terrible route taken by Tauchman on that bloop hit.  That's an easy catch.  Had he caught it, Dansby would have been positioned differently, and it's a routine ground out.  Instead of 2 outs and nobody on, it 1st and 2nd and nobody out.

Tauchman did not have a chance to catch that ball, it was falling too fast so he correctly kept it from skipping past him.  Maybe there's a 10-15% chance he straight lines to the ball and can lay out, but with no outs and the heart of the order up the most likely outcome is Tatis standing on 3rd, and Tauchman right to avoid it.

Thanks!  I'm on Savant every day.  I'll have to dig a littl deeper.

I watched that play several times.  Had he taken a direct to it, he catches it.  He was running too much east, west.  Agree to disagree.

I don’t know if he could have caught it with a better route. But I was at the game. Wind blowing across from right to left was holding everything up in right. The whole game I was telling my wife that Tauchman was playing way too deep. Had he been where he should have been from the start he catches that ball easily. But you do have to give credit to SD manager. Double steal worked. Making the infield come in. Had he not did that the ball that gets through is a routine double play. They have a guy on 3rd with 2 outs. Then after that he did two perfect hit and runs. Again, each are easy outs if guys are not in motion. He just hit in everything he did that inning.

I doubt it helps, but he homered on a pitch that pretty much anyone who does this for a living should take yard. It was the gopher ball to end all gopher balls.

Guys miss mistakes all the time. How often do we see a guy foul one back and JD says the batter wishes he gets that pitch again. May have been a terrible pitch but Gomes still has to hit it squarely.
