Cubs acquire somebody name Jesus Tinoco.

It appears to be pretty high end stuff and fairly poor control.  Curious if he's going to Iowa or I'd he's taking the Palencia roster spot given they were announced at the same time

The announcement I saw was that he was on a minor league deal, so I wonder if it's a coincidence and Merryweather will get Palencia's spot out of the break?

Yeah that seems like a possibility.  I'm pretty shocked it's being considered after 3 rehab outings but I guess he'll work low leverage for the first week or three regardless so maybe it doesn't matter?

Puk to the DBacks for prospects Deyvison De Los Santos and Andrew Pintar.

Puk is on a run of 16 scoreless innings. De Los Santos is absolutely crushing the ball this year and Pintar is having a nice season too.

Puk trade's probably not a bad comp for Leiter?  Leiter's pitching better right now which is important, but Puk's stuff is obviously way higher octane.  Same level of team control.

The needle is pointing up on both guys, way up on Brody Hopkins.  Better return than it looks out of hand but certainly not world beating.

The Orioles announced Friday that they’ve traded outfielder Austin Hays to the Phillies in exchange for right-hander Seranthony Dominguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. Baltimore is designating righty Levi Stoudt for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot, the team announced.

Fascinating baseball trade. Dominguez is frustratingly inconsistent but at his best is a solid hard-throwing reliever. In Baltimore he's probably 4th on the pecking order so he won't be expected to pitch in a lot of high leverage situations.

The Phillies have been desperately trying to figure out center field. Now they buy low on a decent outfielder and can move him and Brandon Marsh between left and center with Jojan Rojas backing up both spots. Also doesn't necessarily preclude them from another move.

This seems like a significant win for Philly.

"Hays hit just .111/.200/.111 in 50 trips to the plate prior to that IL stint but has returned with an excellent .313/.363/.509 slash in 125 subsequent plate appearances"

He's pretty consistently around 105-110 wRC+, under control for 2025 and is ok in LF with the ability to fill in at CF if need be.

If I recall Chris archer in that deal was a sort of win for Tampa? But at least we were able to sniff Garza sweat thru the tv

Yep, Archer gave them a few great seasons and then they traded him for Glasnow and Meadows and then traded Meadows for Paredes. Was a wildly successful trade thread for the Rays

We seemed to learn our lesson. I looked and the only trades we've made with the Rays since the Garza deal are: minor league pitcher for Mastrobuoni, Harold Ramirez for Esteban Quiroz, 40-man roster rearranging trade of Manny Rodriguez and Adrian Sampson for essentially cash.
