Pat Hughes was going nuts in the booth about the Hoerner play. Wish I could watch it, but the shady internet site I used to stream from is no longer working, and MLB.tv seems to have blocked literally every VPN server I have access to.

I feel like Hoerner made it look easy enough that many are not going to appreciate just how absurd it was.  Diving arm side while also getting an in between hop so he fielded it above his head mid-dive, then getting up on the grass and firing a bullet to get a very fast runner in Lux.

The adjustment Hoerner made mid-dive was insane to get that hop. Legitimately up for "play of the year" regardless of the next 155 games. It might not win, but it really might.

Is Betts on a HOF career path?

Yes. Honestly, he's probably already there. 50-60 fWAR is your low-end-HoF career usually. At 31, he's at 56.8.

How long is it going to take for Counsell to bring back the old Hendricks short leash?  Even in Spring Training, it seemed like he was getting absolutely crushed past the first 3-4 innings.

He'd be a bad pick at the moment, but he's clearly going to get there. The press likes him, so even if he wakes up blind tomorrow a la Kirby Puckett or dies in a plane crash like Roberto Clemente, they'll elect him on a "what if" basis.

But assuming even a very abrupt decline phase, he's gonna clear 60 fWAR and be well-liked. He's in.

Yeah, if he was 40 today, he probably would just miss. But being 31, the only reason he wouldn't get to 60-65 would be due to a tragic circumstance and he'd get in regardless due to the factors you mentioned. Betts will make the Hall in almost every conceivable future.
