The biggest problem with Murphy at 9 is that it’s so obviously dictated by team need/scheme, and not a best player available selection.

if Eberflus was not the head coach, and this wasn’t a Tampa 2 team, that selection would not even be considered.

Taking him at 9 is a waste of draft capital.

The draft is pretty good background noise for a Saturday working around the house. It’s awful tv otherwise.

Last year I did a YouTube account for Saturday background noise and it was even better, IMO.  Bootleg Football Podcast guys.

Since Vegas has shot the betting odds for the Bears taking Byron Murphy at 9 sky high I guess its time to take a closer look at him.  This seems like a situation similar to Wright last year where Poles has locked in on his guy and is prepared to grab him.  How does everyone feel about him?  DT is absolutely an area of need but less sexy than a WR or an Edge.

The fact that many think he has maxed out his frame is concerning, but he's supposed to be an explosive freak athlete for the position.

He'd have to be the second coming of Aaron Donald to take at 9.

how many qb prospects in the last 2 decades or so are better than caleb? not a rhetorical question

At the time of draft?  I'd say Luck is the only one clearly on a higher tier then you have guys like Lawrence and Burrow in the same range as Caleb.  I may be forgetting some names.

Even if you go all the way back to 1998, it's probably Peyton Manning and Luck higher and then Eli, Lawrence and Burrow in the same tier with maybe a guy like Carson Palmer pretty close.

Murphy or frankly any of the defenders are guys I'd love to have in the 12-15 range but I think are a bit rich to take at 9.  So like do it cool but trade back and grab them there, even if you might end up with your second choice.

Exactly this, unless it's Turner.

I put the odds at 50/50 that no more than 1 trade is made in the top 10, and maybe won't even see a team trade out. My guess is NYG swaps with AZ to go get a QB

My dream of pairing Rome with Caleb is almost dead

It's my dream as well, if he's there he'll be a Bear otherwise, Nabers, otherwise, trade down.

On the Score they were going over the chain of events that led to the Bears drafting Caleb Williams #1 tonight.  It's almost mind-boggling, it all started with the Texans, on the same drive, converting a 4th and 10 along with a 4th and 20.  Then the trade with Carolina, say what you will about Poles. But, if Williams succeeds, Poles trade with Carolina may one day replace the Herschel Walker trade as franchise altering trade.

All in all, not bad day for a Chicago sports fan, PCA breaks the seal as the Cubs complete the sweep of the Astros and the Bears have the NFL's best draft.
