I like Naylor but I guess I'd rather just sign Hoskins for money. Wouldnt be mad if they traded for Naylor though

if they want someone longer than 1 year and a lefty bat I would rather have Naydor. But if they got a lefty bat another way, Hoskins works too. If DH is open they could actually have Naydor and Hoskins.

Three smaller transactions today:

Will Smith to KC

Austin Hedges to Cleveland

Andrew Chafin to Detroit.

All one year deals. Hopefully signs that things are starting to move a bit here.

Can we do both, while swapping them from dh to first base? Would ease Hoskins back onto the field and gives us a bat with some pop on each side of the plate. I could see Morel going in a  multiplayer deal with Cleveland too, which opens up dh.

If the Cubs think Morel can handle 3rd I would rather trade other pieces for Naydor. Maybe Alcantara. Then have Naydor, Hoskins and Morel all in the line up.

I'd like to come out of this offseason with Morel and wicks still on our roster

I agree. Morel playing even a competent 3rd would be a big win for us. My fear is, with how often his name has been mentioned this off-season, he’s already been written off by the front office.

Me too. Especially Morel. I think they need his power bat, even if just as DH.

I think he has been written off way more by people here than the FO. I think, at the very least, they will try using him there this spring.

Same. We need to keep as much power on our roster as possible. Morel has that.

Want to horde as much young pitching as possible so I'd like to keep Wicks as well.

They have enough minor league talent to trade for some major league additions. They don’t need to trade young major league talent.

You guys aren't old enough to remember bill madlock was an absolute butcher his first few years at thirdbase. But he became adequate later in his career. His bat was more than special. He lacked Morel power but was pure magician with his stroke.

Yeah absolutely agree. Morel shouldnt need to go anywhere.

Im also more than happy to keep Morel. I think we need more offense and not less. Hopefully that very encouraging report that came out is more how the front office views him. But left me wondering if that was to try and drive his value up.

I'm still surprised we haven't been linked to Brandon Belt.

He's 36 years old, and a lot of his success in recent years has been at least partially attributable to an inflated BABIP. But he's at least a decent bet to perform reasonably well as the strong side of a 1B or DH platoon. Since we don't really have any in-house options for either aside from guys the FO seems down on, he strikes me as a decent pickup.

I like Naylor a lot. The only thing that gives me pause is his body type. Kid is 26 -- 5-11 and already 250lbs.  Does that lock him into DH long term?

I really really want Glasnow and that is gonna annoy the hell out of me if he goes to LA.

Looks like the same plan we had here if the Cubs got ohtani.

5-11 over 250?

Boggles my mind why athletes having a shot at muti millions per year can't put down the fork?

Because food can often be an addiction. But unlike heroin or alcohol or other substances you can give up and avoid entirely, people will always need to have some food to survive. So for many it can be a much harder thing to manage.

Probably won't age well. Id be careful if cubs trade for him. Long term contract becomes very iffy IMO.

Morel’s team is playing him a ton at 3B recently. I’ll say, the lineup looks a lot better if he’s there almost every day. I hope he can hold it down there so we can add two bigger bats at 1B/DH.

Morel can hold down 3rd, and we sign Belli, do we start PCA in CF? That would mean any other dollars we have to spend can go towards pitching, right?

this seems like the best case scenario.

No, Belliger should only be signed for center. Either trade for Naydor or sign Hoskins too. Or both. One can DH.
